Sulphur Springs man held in girlfriend's slaying
The 24-year-old mother of two was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
The victims boyfriend, Andrew W. McWhorter, 28, was being held without bond Saturday in the Henry County jail, preliminarily charged with murder.
Henry County Sheriff Kim Cronk said police were called to a report of a shooting about 11:15 p.m. Friday at a home McWhorter shares with his grandmother, at 214 S. Jefferson St. in Sulphur Springs.
Upon entering the house, officers found the victim, already deceased, at the kitchen table, along with McWhorters grandmother, who was not injured, Cronk said.
McWhorter was found in a bedroom with what Cronk described as the long gun believed to have been used in the slaying. He was apprehended without incident, the sheriff said.
Cronk said investigators believed McWhorter, who had been drinking quite a bit, shot Deweese after she indicated she planned to end their relationship.
Deweese the mother of two children, ages five years and six months, according to Cronk was pronounced dead at the scene by Henry County Coroner Dudley Guffey. Investigators remained at the house until about 5:30 a.m.
