Identified! MS - Lawrence Co., Skeletal remains found, Feb 2017 - Billy Shane Trott

A human skull and other remains were found in Lawrence County near the Arm community.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Lessie Butler, the remains were found on Billy Davis Road off of Key Lane.

The report states they suspect a connection to a cold case from 2008, but there aren't any from that county entered into Namus. The closest 2008 case is a man who was last seen at a boarding house in Natchez (spelled incorrectly in the report), about 90 miles to the west:

Here's a Public Notice (2014) looking for family of a deceased person (I think). It acknowledged that Billy Shane Trott was missing in an odd sort of way.

Stumbled upon this one while looking at Charley Project updates. I can't find any information formally linking this body to Billy Shane Trott, but it sounds like he was found deceased in 2017 and that he wasn't immediately identified. Billy Shane Trott – The Charley Project It sounds like they may have thought from the beginning this was him and the formalities took a while.

According to this obituary his funeral was held in September 2018.

I can't find a listing for this UID anymore, so I suspect that means it was him. I'm not sure that there will be any formal news about it though; I get the impression from the above links that it wasn't suspicious and any further details are being kept understandably private. Dunno if that's enough to call this one identified, but I thought it was worth an update.

What's interesting in the Public Notice is that they claim that Billy Shane Trott, whose last known address and whereabouts are unknown after diligent search and inquiry to ascertain same. Well he disappeared in 2008, so was he homeless? Apparently estranged from his family since they didn't know his last known address and claimed to have searched for him in 2014. According to his obit. he had a wife. It's just odd that the only picture seems to be a old blurry drivers license picture, which would have an last known address. He was found deceased but still a mystery.
