"At least four people have been injured after an axe-wielding gang went on a rampage at a Dusseldorf train station.

Two of the culprits have been arrested and squads of anti-terror police and now hunting a further two people in relation to the incident.

Detectives believe that pair have fled into the Dusseldorf city centre.

Pictures from the German city's Central Station, showed one of the victims lying helplessly on the floor as paramedics rushed to their aid."

Just read the news and came here for updates.

"Police in Dusseldorf have arrested at least two people following an ax attack at the city’s main train station. Several people have been injured, according to reports.

There are opposing reports as to whether police are searching for other suspects.

Rainer Kerstiens, a federal police spokesman for the regional state of North Rhine-Wesphalia, described the attack to Deutsche Welle as an “amok attack.”"

I was just thinking today things had thankfully been quiet in regards to terrorist attacks since the New Year tragedy in Turkey.

Attack took place at 9pm on Thursday.

Again, not sure if that time will mean anything, but tossing it out there for reference.

So far they do not seem to be labeling it as terrorists. But what else could it be when multiple people wield axes and attack random strangers?

CNN is reporting one arrest, not two.

Early reports are sometimes inaccurate, so who knows at this point how many attackers there really were. I am hoping there is plenty of security cameras at the station to clarify if there were one, two, four attackers.

WTF? I am slowly catching up on the news and I read this:

The attacker(s) came out of a train and started to hit people.

Any news about what happened INSIDE that train??

Six people were injured, up from five, according to BILD.
One of them has severe wounds.

Axe attacks can cause horrible wounds. Chopping flesh and bones like logs of wood.

Maybe the attacker was injured, making him the sixth? Just a guess, not a fact.

Statement of NRW Police Düsseldorf:

https://www.facebook.com/Polizei.NRW.D/posts/1845700205678378:0

At around 20.50 hrs the control center of the Düsseldorf police received indications of a violent offence at the Düsseldorf main station. An armed man, presumably armed with an ax, attacked people indiscriminately. At least five people were injured, one of them very severely. A suspect, who apparently jumped from an overpass in the vicinity of the station, was arrested. He is seriously injured in the hospital. An axe was secured. The train station was blocked and is being searched. Special units are also deployed.

Is there a link that shows he was a passenger on an incoming train?

Düsseldorf - The nightmare begins at 8:15 pm on Thursday evening in the S 28 [train] at Düsseldorf's main railway station. According to the police, an attacker hit apparently indiscriminately passengers with an axe. First in the S-Bahn, later on the platform of track 13 and even in the station hall. After the attack a trail of blood is visible on the floor of the hall. A total of five people (three men, two women) have been injured, one person is in a serious condition. Panic, chaos, large police force. Helicopters take off. The train traffic is halted and the station has been closed.

An eyewitness to BILD: "I've seen the man. On the ground there was already blood, I believe I have seen two bodies on the rail tracks."

The perpetrator was allegedly a southern type of around 30 years.

Another eyewitness to BILD: "A person was bleeding from the side of his neck."

So, he started attacking while on the train? The S-bahn is a train: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-train

And....he's traveling on the train with an axe? Yikes.

Where did the train originate, do we know yet?

Train originated in Mettmann or Kaarst / Neuss but there are many connections with other S lines and he may have changed trains previously.

So, it sounds like a fairly local route, not crossing borders.

Edited to add...or am I reading this wrong? Is it a 34-minute commuter route or what? I'll check the map, but maybe someone knows quicker than I can check.
