Why so long to report missing?

Bumping for this baby and mom. Can anyone find any updates?

What exactly do they mean by the mom having received "treatment"? Is that a veiled reference to drug addiction? If so, they really need to be specific, as that might lead to someone who wanted to hurt them, etc.

I just tweeted the Fayetteville PD, who initially tweeted they were missing in 2017, to see if they are still missing, as I've seen nothing new one way or the other online.

Amber Renaye Weber and her daughter Miracle Smith were reported missing in January five years ago.

The leads to the case initially went cold, officials said. The case was picked up last year by the department's investigative assistant Sonia Roldan. She collaborated with the U.S. Marshals Service and were able to find the mother and her daughter.

Officials did not release any information about where the two were found or why they went missing.

More info.

In this case, the key revolved around 59-year-old Joe Smith, whom authorities learned may be associated with Weber and her daughter.

"Pretty much when we got the information that led to the charge that ATF was able to pull on Joe Smith, that was pretty much the impetus that drove everything forward," said East.

At the scene, the ATF arrested Smith for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. While there, they located Weber, Miracle, and a second child, identified as a sibling of Miracle's, but whose name and age has not been released at this time. East said the three appeared to be in good health and did not require immediate medical attention, with the Harnett County Department of Social Services providing assistance.

US Marshals Service share details into solving years-long cold case of missing mother and daughter

The case was reignited in 2021 after Fayetteville police investigative assistant Sonia Roldan partnered with the U.S. Marshalls to seek new leads for Weber and Miracle, police said. Information led investigators to believe Weber and Miracle had an association with Smith in Bunnlevel, authorities said.

"The culmination of years of following leads and tips resulted in the outcome that we had all hoped for today; the successful recovery of a child who had been missing since December 2016," Michael East, U.S. marshal for the Eastern District of North Carolina, said in a statement. "The U.S. Marshals Service and our investigative partners will not quit, nor be deterred until these children are rescued."

North Carolina mother, young daughter found safely after going missing in 2016

Family of Fayetteville woman missing for 5 years happy she, her kids were found safe

“They found Weber and her children in the process. Smith is facing a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The feds told CBS 17 Smith is the grandfather of Weber’s children.”

Monty Weber, Amber Weber’s father, told CBS 17 in an exclusive interview Tuesday evening, prior to her disappearance, his daughter had been living with her sister, away from home, and left one night.

“Our daughter [her sister] called and said she took off in the middle of the night,” Monty Weber said. “Didn’t bring clothes or nothing, just grabbed the baby. We figured somebody came and picked her up.”

Monty Weber said the family initially had concerns about the safety of their daughter and her child, but eventually suspected she was, in fact, at the Harnett County property where agents found them Tuesday.”
