"Just the disregard for life is shocking to me," said Harwinton First Selectman Michael Criss. "This kind of stuff doesn't happen in Harwinton."

In Connecticut, there is a Safe Haven Law in place that allows parents to give up their babies if they are 30 days or younger. Parents can drop their child off at any Connecticut hospital emergency room, and if the child hasn't been abused, you will not be arrested.

Anyone with information in this case should contact police.

Oh wow. I know exactly where that is.

Why do people do these things?

I would never read about anything like this in the news when I was growing up in Bristol, CT when I was young.

:(

sad as it is I rather that, than someone's older baby they had been raising who was abused or neglected :(

I'm wondering the same thing. Possibly a teenager had been hiding a pregnancy? This is terrible.

I agree. I want to believe that's what happened. Teens panic and do some really horrible things. If I had been sexually active as a teen, and my parents found out, my extremely religious family would have FREAKED OUT! Without a pregnancy I would have felt my life was over.

More info at link. There's not much to go on as of yet. No info on gender, age or race. This gives me chills as I drove right by this reservoir for years on my way to work. Rte. 72 is very busy, but Harwinton is a very rural, heavily wooded town and so small that it shares schools with neighboring Burlington and even many CT residents have never heard of it. The reservoir is a drinking water source for Bristol, a larger city farther down 72. Very sad and hopefully whoever is responsible is brought to justice soon:

I saw this on my Facebook, this is so sad. Poor baby. :rose:

I feel sick to my stomach.....too close to my birth home....

:( :( :( :(

omg! poor little  i dont care if they were a teen, there is no reason to do this to a little one. they could have gave the child to the hospital or police or fire department but they killed the baby. :furious:

Unreal
That's exactly why they started Safe Haven laws! So people wouldn't have to do this! Unreal. There are so many families out there who would love to be able to have a baby...if they were going to go through with the entire pregnancy, why the heck wouldn't they chose adoption?

So many questions here. How old was the baby? How did it die? I have major problems with this on so many levels.

Safe haven laws are necessary across the country.

What happened and why????? My heart is broken.

Safe Haven laws need to be publicized, though, to be effective. I have no clue if Bristol, CT has one on the books or not, but do teens these days even know what a safe haven law is? (Not saying this baby belonged to a teen, but I'm using that as an example. I have a teenage daughter and I doubt she knows what that means.

Here is a site listing all the safe haven laws, by state.

Not sure if teaching about safe haven laws is part of any type of sex education class, but it should be, IMHO
