Where are they? Outrage over perceived increase in missing black, Latina girls in D.C.
C7rsuMwWkAA6w7o.jpg

Black lawmakers are calling on the FBI to investigate whether there is an increase in cases of missing black children and teens in the nation's capital.

In a letter obtained by the Associated Press, Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-La., Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-D.C., called on Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI Director James Comey to “devote the resources necessary to determine whether these developments are an anomaly or whether they are indicative of an underlying trend that must be addressed.”

Whether it's an increase or not, the number of girls currently missing is unacceptable. And if it's always been like this, then we have a colossal problem on our hands.

I am not sure if Yahshaiyah Enoch is still missing. According to her thread onWebsleuths a Facebook page says she is home safe.

One missing child is too many.

The article goes on to say local authorities say it's the increase in which the names of the missing girls are put on social media that make it seem like there is something like an epidemic.

IMO putting them on social media has raised awareness there is a serious problem.

Would it surprise you to find out a single predator is responsible for a string of missing children anywhere?

If I am not mistaken the stats actually show stranger abduction is quite rare and most missing children are either parental abductions or runaways. However, in these cases it is just as important to find the children. No matter who took them or if they ran away they are kids, they are in danger.

If one of you amazing sleuths could check out the names and see if any of these cases have been resolved?

Thoughts?

Tricia I had similar feelings about the LA missing young ladies. People where really quick to assume that they where all related. In this day and age, we hear about these mp cases in lightning fast speed. So I can totally see why people tend to think cases are related when in reality they probably aren't. Back in the day there may have been just as many mp cases but since SM wasn't around yet, we only heard about the small fraction that national news would report on. Most mp cases are resolved within a few days and most tend to be misunderstandings or runaways but when we see that six girls all went missing within a 200 mile radius, our minds instantly assume that they are connected when in fact most of those cases will be quietly resolved shortly after being reported missing.
But I do agree that each case should be looked into regardless, even if the girls may have left on their own will.
I'd be glad to look into one later tonight when I get off of work:)

#MissingDCGirls: Celebrities tweet about missing teens

Outrage is building on social media over reports about the uptick of missing black and Latina girls in the D.C. area, with Twitter users circulating the hashtag #MissingDcGirls to raise awareness of the disappearances.

According to city police, 501 missing-child cases (many of them for black and Latino kids) were logged in the first three months of the year, with 22 still open. To put that number in perspective, there were 2,242 missing-child cases for all of 2016.

Hopefully DC will get better now that we have a leader who believes in law and order.

I must have missed that. Who? Is there a new mayor in DC recently?

ETA oh I think you're talking about the president duh. Okay well I'll just agree to disagree on that description.

Someone who lives in D.C. might be better able to address the issue. :)

IMO, this goes WAY beyond being a local issue.

Oh, I agree, and one of the problems is certain people get much more attention than others. We see the same sort of problem with sex workers and kids who are mislabeled runaways.

"Everybody counts or nobody counts."
