Police are looking for help from the public to locate missing Auckland woman Kim Bambus.

Kim was last seen in Ponsonby yesterday morning when she told friends she was going to Piha for a run. Her car has been found on Log Race Road, Piha at the entrance to Ahuahu Track (Mercer Bay loop track).

A search for Kim on the track by SAR volunteers started last night and is continuing today.

Police are still keeping an open mind of what has happened to missing woman Kim Bambus.

At a press conference this afternoon a police spokesman said people have survived longer than this but as time goes on they have greater concern for the 21-year-old.

"We very much remain hopeful that she remains alive.

"We really don't know what's happened to Kim ... All we know is that she's missing and we're trying to find her.

"It's an open mind. There are an endless number of possibilities because at this stage we don't know what's happened to Kim. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11825794

Another lady went missing there in 2012. Never found

I don't think she will be found alive.

I don't think Kim will be found alive sadly.

The towering, sheer cliffs above Auckland's Mercer Bay are among the city's highest, but the rugged terrain is no stranger to tragedy. Simon Smith reports.

The area where Kim Bambus was last seen is an idyllic place, with cliffs rising high above the Auckland skyline.

It was Friday morning, when Bambus told her flatmates she was headed to Piha for a run.

As someone who has lived around Piha, I don't think there's foul play here. The cliffs around there are incredibly unstable and the currents are quite strong, people who get washed away tend to end up further south
