Workers at a trash sorting facility on the South side of Columbus made a grisly discovery late Tuesday afternoon when two human legs found in a trash receptacle. According to Columbus news media reports, investigators have refused to reveal the gender or race of the human remains.

COLUMBUS (WCMH) — Police are investigating after human remains were found in a trash receptacle at a south Columbus trash facility.

Investigators have opened a homicide investigation. They have not revealed the race or gender.

Homicide detectives are checking missing person reports and searching through the trash items that were in the same truckload looking for clues to where exactly the legs were picked up.

Police: 2 human legs found at south Columbus waste facility


COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- Columbus police are handling a homicide investigation after two human legs were found at a south Columbus waste facility.

According to an employee, authorities were in the right side of the building where trash is dumped and processed. Employees were kept away from the location during the investigation according to the worker.

Officials at Local Waste Services declined comment Wednesday on the discovery of a pair of human legs a day earlier at its South Side waste-collection facility.

Homicide detectives were not answering any questions.

Police have not been able to identify the gender or race of who the legs belong to. They did release a photo today of a boot that was on the leg. It is a size 10 boot with feathers on it by JustFab. Based on my research it appears to be a Teigarhorn model. Police also seem to think there is a good chance that the legs were in a cardboard dumpster someone in Northwest Columbus prior to being discovered by workers at Local Waste.

I know sometimes shoe size has no bearing, but a lot of time it does and size 10 is pretty big.

According to Columbus police, the trash truck that carried the legs to the facility made at least 20 stops in the northwest Columbus area.

The legs were picked up sometime between March 21 and March 28.

Authorities also revealed a boot that was on one of the victim's feet.

Sgt. Stan Latta said the brand is Just Fab and is a size 10.

Just Fab is a subscription-based company that delivers shoes on a monthly basis.

The model appears to be the "Teigarhorn."

Police Release Photo Of Shoe To Help Identify Victim After Legs Found In Trash

Investigators call this a very tough case; a homicide in which they don't have the identity of the victim, or at this point, even a race or gender.

They said the only items found with the dismembered body parts were pants and a distinctive looking shoe.

Other new information released Friday: the legs were in separate containers and appeared to have been sawed off.

Based on the truck that delivered the load the legs were found in, it's believed they came from a dumpster somewhere in the northwest part of Columbus.

Police Hope Boots Lead To Identity Of Legs Found At Trash Plant

JustFab boots, size 10 women’s, brown with a fur lining.

Even the gender of the person — likely female — is only a good guess because of the style of the boots.

Because decomposition had begun, the race, gender and age of the legs’ owner can’t be determined.

Oh man. Such a grisly find. I hope they find the victim. It appears to me that maybe the person hasn't been reported missing yet.

The only time a missing person is mentioned on the Columbus television stations is when it involves an endangered juvenile or senior citizen that is missing. I haven't heard any news reports from the Columbus news media as far as missing adults are concerned.

The Columbus Dispatch is reporting in their newspaper this morning that after five months, the woman’s legs that were found at a trash sorting facility still hasn’t been identified.

Investigators believe that the victim was a black female in her 30’s and her height may range from 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet, 11 inches tall.

The victim had no scars or tattoos on her legs and the victim wore a pair of size 10 JustFab brown boots with fur trim and lining.

Investigators also say the woman’s DNA is not listed in any databases and that her DNA hasn’t been matched to anyone reported missing in the surrounding area.

The newspaper article mentioned that the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is planning to roll out an ad campaign soon in hopes of generating tips.

The newspaper article also mentioned that anyone with information is asked to call Columbus homicide at 614-645-4730

I believe the woman has to be closer to 5'11 with a size 10 shoe. My best friend is 5'11 and she is a size 91/2 to 10 shoe. I am 5'2 and wear a 6 1/2 to 7 shoe.
 
I'm 5'6" and size 8.5-9. My sister is 5'9" and wears size 10. I've also "borrowed" my sisters shoes for an evening if they are particularly cute.
 
I'm 5'9" and wear a size 11 shoe, sometimes a 10.

Not to state the obvious, but hopefully JustFab has been contacted, as they probably have a limited number of customers in the Columbus area who subscribed to their mail-order shoe club and requested the "Teigarhorn" model in what is somewhat of a fringe size.

Case History: On March 28, 2017 police were called to the area of 1300 South Columbus Airport Road, Columbus, OH, 43207 after someone reported finding two human legs in the trash. Two brown, size 10, Just Fab brand Teigarhorn fur boots were recovered with the legs.
 
From her height she could of worn a size 10. She also only went missing a couple days before the legs were found.
