BUENA PARK, Calif. (AP) — Authorities are investigating human remains found in the backyard of a Southern California home.

Buena Park police say a resident was digging in the yard Sunday and found the bones a few feet under the surface.

Responding officers confirmed that the bones appeared to be human, and the coroner's office was called in.

A cadaver dog was brought in after sunrise Monday but it found no additional remains.

Coroner's investigators removed the remains, which are unidentified. Police say the cause of death is unknown.

Here is some information I found.

After analyzing the bones, Orange County Coroner's Office investigators determined Monday they were of Native American descent and had likely been buried in the homeowner's backyard for a lengthy period of time.
Authorities do not believe criminal activity was involved and the investigation has been closed. Arrangements will be made with the Native American Heritage Commission to properly re-inter the remains, police said.
