Charges have been authorized after a social media prank gone wrong led to a Marquette pre-teen attempting suicide.

Tysen Benz died on Tuesday, April 4th, as a result of injuries sustained in his attempt to hang himself March 14. Marquette City Police are reporting that an investigation indicated Tysen was in communication with another 13-year-old juvenile via social media prior to the incident. Tysen's mother, Katrina Goss, has stated that the juvenile was a girlfriend of Tysen's and that the prank involved her convincing Tysen that she had died.

The Marquette County Prosecutor's Office authorized charges for Malicious Use of Telecommunications Services and using a computer to commit a crime.

The name of the girl charged will not be released by the Police Department due to her status as a juvenile.
