Horrific exploiting two kids from age 14 on for 4 years. The photo in the Toldeo news link shows a very nice mega church, not some little storefront church.

According to the FBI docs, two ministers and other males were involved in sex acts with these juveniles. One of the ministers even abused them at his office in the church.

Shocking. They need to shut down the church, it's day care center and the charter school it runs.

ETA: Even worse, the pastors/ministers even recorded activities on their phones and shared them with other men in their group.

I wonder of the church's "first lady" had any idea this was happening while working as Lucas County Administrator "... steward of a $500 million budget and the manager of more than 3000 county employees."

"... as first lady of her husband’s church, Lloyd-Jenkins has to divide her time between her faith and politics. When asked how she balances her faith and her job Lloyd-Jenkins says “I’m not ashamed of my faith. I can separate the two. But I also, at times, have to make some tough decisions.

Sickening. And, this isn't an isolated occurrence.

As with the Hollywood cases in the news lately, there seems to be something certain power structures which may not create perversions, but does certainly allow them to flourish unquestioned.

In the wake of the Catholic revelations of abuse, many mainstream protestant denominations took steps in the form of pre-ordination screening, congregational training and centralized "search and call" (to prevent "passing the trash"). However, many big mega-churches are either loosely affiliated with denominations, or may have no formal affiliation, believing themselves to be sufficient unto themselves. When a popular pastor/minister/bishop can fill the pews and the offering plate, many with decision-making responsibility are reluctant to rock the boat when the first cautionary symptoms appear. And, of course, their spiritual leader (and abuser) is likely adept at minimizing and refocusing attention.

The trial of two pastors accused of child sex trafficking has been postponed to February. An exact date has not yet been determined.

Meanwhile, Haynes' wife and step-daughter are also facing charges for intimidating a witness in the case. Alisa Haynes and Alexis Fortune allegedly assaulted and threatened the witness, attempting to get her to recant her statements to the prosecution. Haynes has since filed a motion to be released from jail ahead of the trial. That motion has not yet been granted.

All three pastors were convicted in 2019 of child sex trafficking. Haynes and Jenkins were sentenced to life in prison. Butler was sentenced to 17 and a half years in prison.

Fortune and Alisa Haynes pleaded guilty to witness tampering and other charges related to the incident. Alisa Haynes was sentenced to 24 months in prison and Fortune was sentenced to 48 months, but granted compassionate release in December to serve the rest of her sentence in home confinement.
