news article December 18, 2011

Rebecca “Becky” Kellison was eager to get home so she could study for a final test at Lane Beauty Academy in Aurora she was attending.

That Saturday morning, June 19, 1976, she was only two days away from graduating from the school.
---
She had gone dancing at nightclubs with her sister Carol and her brother-in-law the night before.
Early that Saturday morning, before her sister awoke, she wrote a note, “I’m going home,” love Becky.
It was the last communication any family member or friend ever had with Becky. She left the note between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.

“I still have that note,” said her mother, Margaret Kellison, then 80, of Shasta Lake, Ca.

Becky’s car was then parked in front of her parent’s home in Aurora so she likely walked a few blocks and either hitchhiked or took a bus a few blocks from her sister’s Denver apartment near City Park.
---
For one thing, she had a close relationship with her father, who was debilitated after suffering a heart attack.
She wouldn’t do something like running away – that would cause him so much stress.
---
In December of 1977, a farmer was plowing a field in Adams County on property where the Denver International Airport runway is located.

At the time the ground was rolling fields. The plow uncovered clothing. The farmer called the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators dug up the ground and found Kellison’s blue purse with her identification inside. They found her jeans, underwear, black boots, her shoes, brown suede jacket and her short-sleeved print shirt.
---
Margaret Kellison repeatedly went to the site to see what police were doing to search for her daughter’s remains.

Although police said they had dug up the whole field looking for her daughter’s remains she never saw any sign of it.
---
Years later, when the area was paved over for a runway, her remains were not found.
---
Between 1975 and 1995, as many as 40 young girls and women were picked up along the Colfax Avenue corridor in Denver and Aurora.

Some were prostitutes, others hitchhikers or girls who had run away from home.
Their bodies were found months later rotting beside highways. Some were posed in a provocative way by the killer after death. Many were nude.

Details of Disappearance
Kellison was last seen in Denver, Colorado on June 24, 1976. She, her sister and her sister's husband had gone out to nightclubs the previous evening, and Kellison spent the night at her sister's home in the area of east Colfax Avenue and Madison Street.

Between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m., Kellison left her sister's residence, leaving a note saying she was going to her own home in Aurora, Colorado. She had to study for her last exam at Lane Beauty Academy; she was two days from graduating. She didn't have her car with her, so it's possible she decided to hitchhike. She never arrived home and has never been heard from again.

Authorities initially thought Kellison had simply left, but her family didn't believe she would have walked out on her life; they stated she was close to them and would not have wanted to put additional strain on her father, who was ill.

On December 26, 1977, some of Kellison's clothes, her shoes, her blue shoulder purse and her Armed Forces Dependent identification card were found buried in a rural farmer's field in Adams County, Colorado. The field has since been paved over and is now a runway. Kellison's case remains unsolved.

Among the items found in that field there were a pair of boots AND a pair of shoes. Was Becky carrying any luggage? Did she stay for a while at her sister's home?
Other interesting fact is that her mother didn't see any evidence that indicated the field was dug up at all... Maybe the former owner could say what happened. Anyway, if the field was paved to build a runway, I suppose they had to dig to develop it and nothing was found. Very sad.
