EDMONTON - A Fort McMurray, Alta., man who admitted to making two overseas trips to have sex with a teenage Irish girl hed been grooming online appeared in an Edmonton courtroom Tuesday.
Jashua Robert Tremblay earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of child luring, one count of sexual interference and two counts of breaching conditions.
Tremblay, 34, met the girl online in 2013, and began communicating with her through a messaging app, according to an agreed statement of facts read at a sentencing hearing in Court of Queens Bench.
After flattering the 13-year-old, Tremblay, who was married with a child, began to have sexual conversations through the app. He sent naked pictures of himself to her, and encouraged her to reciprocate.
In a victim impact statement entered as an exhibit, the girls father wrote that his daughter had been brainwashed by Tremblay, and believed she would move to Canada and marry him when she turned 18.
The identity of the girl is protected by a court-ordered publication ban.
The father wrote that after Tremblays offences were discovered, his daughter became distressed and isolated, and had to seek counselling.
Krieger is seeking five years in prison as a sentence, while defence lawyer Dan Chivers is arguing for a four-year term.
Moreau is expected to hand down her decision Wednesday.
