A man told police she was living with him on Radford Road Northeast, but she left around March 10 and took clothing and personal items with her.

Video footage at the Nishi Food Mart in the 3600 block of Plantation Road Northeast shows that man using a debit card issued to Merle-Perez to make a purchase April 1.

Purchases at other locations across Roanoke and online have been made using that card since Merle-Perez was reported missing.

Police executed a search warrant April 25 at the house on Radford Road and seized cellphones, debit and credit cards, a wallet, checks, a bus pass, receipts, a driver’s license, paperwork and medication.

Police: Missing woman's boyfriend using her debit card
Video footage from the Nishi Food Mart on Plantation Rd. NE shows Kent using a debit card to make a purchase on April 1 around 6:30 a.m., according to police.

Merle-Perez's bank records indicated that the card used for transaction is issued to Merle-Perez through Suntrust Bank.

Police said there were numerous other purchases in Roanoke and online from the same card since Merle-Perez was reported missing.

Based on Kent's statement denying possession of her card and the video showing him using the card, police said they believe he currently has possession of the card.

Dayshaun Keith Kent was indicted Monday on charges of improper disposal of a body, as well as credit card theft and credit card fraud.

Although the state medical examiner’s office is still trying to determine both the identity of the body and the cause of death, Caldwell said numerous factors, including medical evidence, raise the potential for a connection.

I can't find any confirmation of the identity of the remains, but EMP's NAMUS is still active.

Police just verified through the Medical Examiner that the remains were Ms. Perez. http://www.wdbj7.com/content/news/Human-remains-found--471986053.html
Early on in the investigation, police turned their attention to a man named Dayshuan Kent, who had spent time with Merle-Perez shortly before her disappearance.

A grand jury charged Kent with concealing a dead body, credit card theft, and credit card theft in August 2017.

Kent admitted to hiding her remains during a January 3 court hearing. At that time, Kent entered guilty pleas on charges of improper disposal of a body and animal cruelty. In exchange, the credit card charge was dismissed.

Police are still investigating the cause of Merle-Perez's death.

Virginia man who hid girlfriend's body, drowned her cats sentenced
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/virginia-man-who-hid-girlfriends-body-drowned-her-cats-sentenced/
ROANOKE, Va. - A man who dumped his girlfriend's body and drowned her cats has been sentenced to a decade in prison. How 38-year-old Edme Merle-Perez died remains a mystery. Twenty-three-year-old Dayshaun Keith Kent says the mother of five overdosed on Benadryl.

[...]

This is bonkers that Carson and jury accepted Benadryl od as cod without the coroner able to find a cod. This is local to me and I’m furious that he was only sentenced with 10 years and 5 of it is for the cats.

MOO

That’s really a shameful sentence. He killed her, or else he wouldnt have killed her cats.

From what I’ve read online it would take a really massive amount of Benadryl for a fatal overdose, like more than 100 pills. You can call in ods in VA without fear of prosecution now, this is just mind boggling.
