"An 11-year-old girl has gone missing from her home in London after going to school on Wednesday morning.

Kasey Hacking has not been seen since 8.30am yesterday morning, after leaving for school.

She did not attend lessons that day, and a desperate search has been launched as police officers grow concerned for her welfare."

I never understand why when a child goes missing in the UK (especially one this young) It takes a while for the MSM to jump on it. Regardless of the reason why she has gone missing she is 11..

I think its because often they turn up quite soon. I'm never sure why some cases get huge attention from the start even if the circumstances are very similar to others that are ignored.

The vast majority of child/teen disappearances are resolved within 24 hours, and I suppose in most cases there will have been some sort of trigger - an argument at home typically - which means they'll be back when they've cooled down. Occasionally there are early strong signs that there has been foul play and the police want the media to put it front page.

Another consideration is that the police don't necessarily want the whole country ringing in with "sightings". This was the case with Corrie McKeague, it was kept local for quite a while and CCTV images were only shown to those living in the town because once an image is nationwide they get loads more calls and it uses up valuable resources.
