Pamela Graddick was 26 when she died, clad in a t-shirt and underwear. The home healthcare worker had no apparent enemies.

“I believe it was someone that she knew,” Detective John Geiss, Yonkers Police Department said, “Because of the way she was dressed when she was found.”

It’s presumed she was killed in the Bronx, perhaps inside her own apartment. For the first weeks it was a low-priority missing persons case. It didn’t become a murder until her body turned up in Yonkers near the Sprain Brook Parkway.

On Sept. 4, 2012, members of the Yonkers Police Department were dispatched to 2 Rossmore Avenue, where there were reports of a foul odor in the wooded area next to the property. Upon arrival, officers discovered a dead body in a dark plastic bag that was in a state of advanced decomposition...

At the time, Graddick’s girlfriend of approximately three years said that she last saw her at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 11. Police said that Graddick went to the Bronx Terminal to shop and she was then dropped off at her apartment by friends. She was last heard from at 11:19 p.m. that day via a text message sent to a friend.

Considering that PG was in a relationship with a woman, wondering if this could be a hate crime?
speculation, imo.

Family pleads for answers in Bronx woman's cold-case killing
''Graddick, a teacher’s assistant, had been missing for nearly a month before a man who lives close to where the body was dumped noticed a foul odor and called the police.''

Graddick wasn’t from Yonkers, but lived 10 miles away from the crime scene in Concourse Village in the Bronx.

Who and why are the questions that still haunt Tawanna McClelan about her sister’s savage killing.

"Sept. 4, 2012 -- Pamela's body was discovered in a plastic bag,” said McClelan.''

''Police say they believe the killer was no stranger. ''

''Graddick had been living with her girlfriend and partner’s children in the Bronx when she disappeared. Her family says they had been in a relationship for a few years. Investigators say her partner, Wanda, was out at a family get-together upstate the Sunday before Graddick was reported missing.''

''A $5,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to an arrest and conviction of Graddick’s killer.

Graddick’s sister is celebrating her life Friday night with a special ‘All-White’ event in their old neighborhood on University Avenue and 170th Street.''

Wanda Veguilla, 40, is accused of killing Pamela Graddick in August 2012 in the apartment they shared with Veguilla's children on Morris Avenue in the Bronx. She was taken into custody on Sunday.

Veguilla was arraigned Monday afternoon in Yonkers City Court as more than a dozen of Graddick’s relatives and friends looked on, several wearing shirts that read “Justice for Pam.”

Graddick, 26, was last seen on surveillance video the night of Aug. 11, 2012, walking past a Morris Avenue business on her way home from shopping with friends.

Authorities suspect Veguilla killed her in the apartment later that night or early the next morning.
Pamela Graddick's suspected killer charged with murder in Yonkers

“Wanda was a suspect for quite some time in this case,” Yonkers Police Deputy Chief Joseph Monaco said.

“It’s not just about solving the case. It’s about giving closure to the loved ones, the families and friends that have lost this person,” Police Commissioner John Mueller said.

Police said data recovered from the phone helped dispute Veguilla’s alibi, which she shared with CBS2’s Lou Young in 2017.

“I wasn’t here that weekend. I went away,” Veguilla said at the time.

“She sat in our detective division and after a lengthy interview eventually confessed to the crime,” Monaco said.

In 2017, CBS2 was with the victim’s sister as she put up reward posters. Tawanna McClellan told Aiello via phone the arrest of her sister’s partner represents a betrayal.

“That’s the hurtful part, She lied about everything to our face. She came to the funeral. She was in our face, knowing this is what she did,” McClellan said.

McClellan said she’ll never understand what motivated the murder of her kind, loving sister, adding she’s grateful to the cops who spent a decade pursuing answers.

The victim was last seen on surveillance video the night of Aug. 11, 2012, walking past a Morris Avenue business in the Bronx on her way home from shopping with friends, according to Lohud.com. On Sept. 4, 2012, a resident reported a foul odor in the vicinity of the Sprain Brook Parkway.Officers discovered a plastic bag with Graddick’s body wrapped in a comforter.

Investigators believe she was shot once in the head. Police said Veguilla, who was living with Graddick at the time of her disappearance, had been a suspect in the case. Data recovered from Graddick’s cell phone helped dispute Veguilla’s alibi that she was away that weekend, authorities said.

Officials had showed up at Veguilla’s apartment Sunday and asked her to come into police headquarters for questioning, Lohud reported. There, she confessed to the killing.

The motive behind Graddick’s death was not disclosed. Police believe Veguilla had an accomplice and are searching another suspect.

Thank you God for resolution to Pam's case! Det. Geiss (who recently identified Yonkers Jane Doe as Meresa Hammonds) worked on this case for about ten years. I believe I read in one article that he pushed back his retirement to fulfill his promise to the Graddick family to get this resolved. I hope Pam is resting in peace now.

CRIME HUNTER: Serial killer victim Jane Doe gets her name back | Edmonton Journal
''Yonkers cold case Det. John Geiss took charge of the file in 2000 and never stopped looking for answers, even though her killer had long been captured and caged.

“She still was a Jane Doe, and that’s not her name,” Geiss told WPIX. “I thought it was important for us, the City of Yonkers, to give her her name back.”

Geiss told the TV station he consulted with Assistant District Attorney Laura Murphy in Westchester County. The cop and lawyer decided to utilize genetic genealogy to discover the real identity of Yonkers Jane Doe.

“We had to get in contact with the FBI,” Geiss said. “Because they have a genealogy unit, two agents who are assigned to this.”
