A despicable crime. Things like this leave me speechless.

NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif. (KCRA)
New details given by friends revealed that an 86-year-old woman was killed trying to protect her friend during an attack by a man on the Highlands High School track.
Fusako Petrus lived in North Highlands and was out for a morning walk Wednesday with her 61-year-old friend when a man approached the pair, according to Petrus' family friends.
She's walked her for 30 years and lives in this neighborhood. And has felt safe in this neighborhood," family friend Vicki Butler said. They were taking the appropriate actions to not be alone. So it's frustrating that someone was brazen enough to attack them.
Butler said Petrus tried to fend off the attacker, but he used his hands and feet to kill Petrus and injured her friend.
The other woman was attacked first from my understanding," Butler explained. "He was choking her and Fusako started hitting him with her walking stick. And it allowed her (neighbor) to get away.
An 18-year-old man is a person of interest in this case and was arrested Wednesday afternoon on unrelated charges after he assaulted an older woman near Fair Oaks Boulevard and Howe Avenue in Sacramento.
