Father sentenced in baby's death
Monday, December 5, 2005 10:56 PM CST
The Selma Times-Journal

The first of two people charged in the death of a six-month-old girl was sentenced to 20 years in prison Monday for manslaughter in the case.

Antonio Brown, the father of Andrina Brown, pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges in the death of the child on April 6, 2004.

The child was taken to the Vaughan Regional Medical Center on April 5, 2004, according to court records. She was soon sent to the Birmingham Children's Hospital, where hospital records show she was brain-dead on arrival. She was disconnected from life support the next day.

Birmingham hospital officials reported the case to the Selma Police Department. A subsequent autopsy showed the child died from blunt force trauma to the head. She had multiple fractures, a large bruise and evidence of healed and partially healed trauma also.

Both Brown, 22, and his common law wife, Letesia Shelton - the child's mother - were charged with the baby's death.

Why manslaughter and not at least 2nd degree murder? I gather that this little tiny girl must have been abused since her birth. Just makes me sick. Poor little thing. Baby killers don't fare to well in prison. Hopefully this mother and father won't.
