Father accused in death, sexual assault of Inkster infant

A 22-year-old man has been charged in the death and sexual assault of his 8-month-old daughter from Inkster.

James Saltmarshall, 22, of Detroit faces charges of felony murder, first-degree child abuse and first-degree criminal sexual conduct, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said in a news release today.

The father at first said he was sleeping on a bed with the girl, got up to use the bathroom, and when he returned she wasn’t breathing, reports the paper. In another statement, he allegedly said the baby fell off the bed and he shook her when he realized she wasn’t breathing.


Saltmarshall also denied sexually assaulting the girl and claimed an intruder might have entered the hotel, which Smith called “preposterous.”

re the on camera interview with dad. I I I me me me.

The reunion with his brother and friends and smiles and celebration on camera were more than I can stomach.
 
The way I see it, the whole system let this baby down and had a hand in her demise. Every agency should be held accountable in some way, not just the parents. The paternal grandmother warned the powers that be and did everything she could to protect that child, and was met with brick walls.
I'm not going to be quick to blame the father, either, until it can be proven that the signs of assault are attributed to him by physical evidence (hairs, fluid, etc), because not all pedophiles are males.
 
He came up with the 2 million bond? Is it only a percentage that he has to have in cash?

Time to sit on hands.

Mom said if I can't say anything nice.

I know something I can say. My heart breaks for paternal gramma. I appreciate that she is about the baby and has been about the baby. No excuse making after the fact for her son and prior she was actively trying to intervene and protect that baby girl.

My thoughts are with her. I cant imagine her pain.
 
This is why people shouldn't assume charges mean guilt.
Too many times the cops jump to conclusions, believe false allegations or ignore proof of innocence.
I'm glad this guy has people who are looking twice, maybe he will get a second chance others are denied.

How do you mistake head trauma and rectal tearing? What on earth?

Also article says death ruled accidental, so what accident caused baby girl's death if not the now labeled "erroneous" findings at autopsy??
 
What the He** ?!?!??! If he didn't do anything to harm her...SOMEONE did!!!!! Was she being trafficked??? This makes my blood boil!

Is that the conclusion you came to reading the link to the article I posted, by chance? If so, I'm sorry, but I'm not drawing the same conclusion.
