Stumbled upon this case on Imgur and then found a post on TMZ Eau Claire, hope it is enough to post here.

From imgur, a post from his niece/nephew:

"You see the man in this picture? His name is Derek, he's my uncle, and he's missing. We haven't seen or heard from him since Friday (4/28) afternoon. He was last seen in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. We located his car about 20 minutes outside our hometown, on private property, parked by a lumber yard that he has no business being at. The police searched the woods with a bloodhound this morning but found nothing, and are beginning to suspect foul play. This isn't a case of an adult man leaving everything behind, something is very wrong. (...)
If anyone in the Chippewa Valley Area sees this and has any information, please reach out. We miss him."

Picture from police when they found his vehicle. Just seems like such odd placement. Family is definitely of belief he did not drive it there himself.

Thank you to the mods who corrected the title, I didn't have DH's age when I first opened the thread... I can't seem to find anything new by MSM on this...

Saw on his sister's FB page that yesterday they were organizing a search and they are looking in the areas close to where Derek's car was found. They are looking in some ravines and are looking for his personal objects (backpack, wallet, keys, phone).

Derek Helgeson is a 39 year old white male with brown hair and green eyes. He is 6 feet tall and weighs 190 pounds.
Anyone with any information about Helgeson’s whereabouts or who has seen him since Friday is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Mark Pieper at 715-839-6217.

I want to thank the op's who added Derek Helgeson's case to this site. I am Derek's sister. Below is a link to the latest news report. The Eau Claire police have taken this case very seriously from the start, but we have very little to go on. I have come on here to encourage more conversation about my missing brother. I am willing to answer any questions and welcome thoughts from Websleuth members.

People with depression don't always seem depressed. Sometimes, when they are planning to commit suicide, they seem to be at their happiest. The lunch with his parents could have been his way of saying goodbye. IMHO I think he committed suicide or wants to start over. Either way, leaving his car there tells me he doesn't want to be found.
 
Derek Helgeson was last seen on surveillance video at the Holiday Station Store around 6 p.m. on April 28th. The video shows Helgeson purchasing fuel and he appears to be alone.

Approximately two hours later, Helgeson’s vehicle was found unoccupied in southern Eau Claire County along County Highway B near Oak Road. Police are trying to determine Helgeson’s movements during those two hours.

The area by his car was searched with three different kinds of dogs including cadaver dogs. On three different occasions. The police do not think derek is or ever was in the area where his car was found. Derek had lunch with my dad and often my mom every week. This was a routine. So nothing special about that. The police are considering his disappearance suspicious.

Thank you for joining us, jodego27, and I am so very sorry for what you and your loved ones are going through.

May I ask a few questions? If you cannot or are not allowed to answer -given that the investigation is ongoing-, I understand completely.

1. What personal items of Derek's are missing?

2. Have the police been able to ping Derek's cell phone and/or track it via GPS, and if so, time and location? Anywhere near where his car was found?

3. Did the dogs pick up any scent at all?

4. May I ask which Holiday Station Store Derek went to, and the approximate distance from there to where his car was found?

5. Were there any footprints found around Derek's car when it was found, and if so, how many sets? Has the car been forensically examined?

I'm sorry I have so many. Just wanting to help, and hoping that your brother is found soon, safe and sound.
