COLUMBUS, Ohio

A Columbus man seemed to have everything going for him- a good family, a steady job, a bright future.
But now it has been more than eight years since anyone has seen or heard from Andrew Chapman.
CrimeTracker 10's Angela An sits down with the lead Columbus detective, who hopes sharing Chapman's story will get this case solved.

Well the news report doesn't really paint him as the upstanding, all-American guy that the description originally called for. He had everything going for him, yet it goes on to say that he was addicted to pain killers, acting erratic, had a court appearance and cutting off contact with family members.Seems like he was either leaving town, or got involved with the wrong crowd and paid for it. Isn't Hilltop one of the more dangerous neighborhoods in Columbus? Perhaps he went to buy drugs from someone there and they took advantage of a mentally unstable man. Or seeing how it was winter, maybe Andy was in a drug induced state and fell into the river and got hypothermia/drowned?

Hilltop/Bottoms are a nasty area and it seems to have just gotten worse with time. It can be a dangerous neighborhood to live in and is riddled with crime. There is a lot of drug activity. What was he doing in that area ? Did he live there ?

"Judy Rafferty is the reason why all these women are here. She is the mother of Andrew Chapman. Her Facebook page, Help find Andrew Chapman has gained over 500 likes as she continues to search for her son 12-years later.

"He lived on the west side of Columbus. I went to see him one day and he was no longer living there. He has just disappeared," said Rafferty.

Five women with one goal in mind. And they won't stop searching until they find the missing.

"You can never give up hope. I know God knows were he is, but we don't so in the mean time we will keep looking for him," said Rafferty."

"We don't know if he left on his own accord or something did happen to him," Said Chapman.

Andy Chapman was last seen in his home on Whitethorne Avenue in The Hilltop just weeks before Christmas

Family members say police have gotten few leads since Andy's disappearance.

"We think about it everyday," said Judy Rafferty, Andy's mother, "we are just hoping for closure."
"As the two pass out the posters, they also think about another missing man, Brian Shaffer, who disappeared eight months before Andy.

Shaffer's case made headlines around the world after he was last seen leaving a bar near the Ohio State campus.

While the two men disappeared within months of each other, Police and family say the cases are not connected."

Details of Disappearance
Chapman was last seen at his home on Whitethorne Avenue in the Hilltop area of Columbus, Ohio on December 8, 2006. He called his grandmother, apparently in a panic, and said he needed to see her right away. She wasn't able to come and visit him for several days, however, and by then he was gone. He left his car behind and has never been heard from again.

He missed a court appearance later that month, and his family reported him missing in January 2007. In 2008, the missing persons report was closed without his family being consulted, as authorities thought Chapman was simply on the run from his legal problems. In 2013, once police realized his family still hadn't heard from him, they reopened the missing persons case.

Prior to his disappearance, Chapman had become addicted to drugs, and his wife had taken their young son and left him. He remained in regular touch with his mother and grandmother, however.

His family initially thought he might have just left on his own due to his drug problem, but after years passed without anyone hearing from him, they began to worry. They now believe foul play is possible in his disappearance. His case remains unsolved.''

In early December of 2006, 32-year-old Andrew Chapman disappeared from the Hilltop area of Columbus, Ohio. At the time, Andrew lived with a couple of roommates on Whitethorne Avenue. Andrew called his mom and told her that he needed her to come by his place because he had something to give her. He seemed to be in a bit of a panic. Andrew's mom, Judy, was very ill at the time and couldn't make the trip to see Andrew that day. In the days that followed, Judy was on the mend and stopped by Andrew's apartment to see what he needed. Judy was shocked to find that Andrew's apartment had been completely cleaned out. Andrew and his roommates were gone. Phone calls to Andrew went unanswered, and no one had any clue where he could be. Andrew's case quickly went cold, and maybe he wanted some time away from family? As the years went by, more perplexing clues began to surface as Andy's sister started digging into the case herself. Today, many questions remain unanswered, but Andrew's family is determined to find out what happened to him.

If you have any information about the disappearance of Andrew Chapman, please contact the Columbus Police Department at 614-645-4545.

I just listened to the vanished podcast episode about this that aired 4/11. What a sad story. My personal thought is he had a large sum of cash on him he wanted his mom to hold because he did not feel safe with it. They then tricked him into going somewhere (possibly hocking hills as a getaway) and that's where he was killed and buried and they took his money. Just how i felt listening to the podcast. I pray it brings closure.
