Melbourne Airport on lockdown after Malaysia Airlines passenger tried enter cockpi

[FONT=&amp]Malaysia Airlines flight MH128 from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur returned to Australia around an hour into the flight shortly before midnight local time (3pm UK time)



[/FONT][FONT=&amp]A picture shared on Twitter appears to show armed police on the grounded plane amid reports the flight is being evacuated.[/FONT]
[FONT=&amp]In a statement, Malaysia Airlines confirmed a "disruptive passenger" had tried to enter the cockpit. Local media reports suggest he claimed to have explosives.

[FONT=&amp]However SBS World News journalist Brianna Roberts reported a passenger said the man was holding an "electronic frequency" device instead of a bomb.

[/FONT] while all incoming aircraft have been diverted to nearby Avalon Airport.
MH128 left Melbourne at 11:11pm and reached 6400 feet before turning around and landing at 11:41pm.
Australian Federal Police confirmed to 9NEWS they were responding to an incident but would not comment further.

IMO
Its good to hear that passengers are fighting back against hijackers and disruptive passengers.

Years ago people were trained to just do as hijackers say. Nowadays people do not tolerate it and are willing to fight back.

9-11 changed everything. People began to realize that sometimes hijackers dont want to just travel to another place. They want to kill everyone on board sometimes. So nowadays people realize they have the numbers and can overpower most attempted hijackers.

There is definitely a risk involved but people are willing to take the risk and fight back.

Kudos to them for tying up this guy and gaining control of the situation.

Passenger’s Bomb Threat Disrupts Malaysia Airlines Flight

A Malaysia Airlines plane returned to Australia on Wednesday after a disruptive passenger, who claimed to have a bomb, attempted to enter the cockpit, the authorities said.

“It is believed that the suspect is a Sri Lankan national, and that he was drunk,” said Datuk Seri Ab Aziz Kaprawi, Malaysia’s deputy transport minister according to The Star, a Malaysian newspaper.

“Malaysia Airlines would like to stress that at no point was the aircraft ‘hijacked,’” the airline said in a statement.

The man “claimed to have a bomb,” Mr. Kaprawi said. “It was not a bomb but a power bank,” referring to a portable charger for electronic devices.

According to the police in the Australian state of Victoria, the man never gained access to the cockpit.

Crazy times for Malaysia Airlines. Have worked in aviation for 38 years on the ground and in the air. I believe if I had an event in flight a s a solo flight attendant I would certainly get assistance. I believe from the footage the flight attendant yelled "help, help" which contradicts standard operational procedures in the event of a bomb threat. There is a phrase that needs to be relayed to the Captain immediately. The aircraft would be given clearance then towed to a designated area. LE would have been sure that the said device was benign hence passengers staying on board for an hour. Again operating procedures would depict a rapid evacuation for the pax. Letting them stay on board ????? Many years ago we had a Captain of a major airline I worked for decided to take a hot water bottle from the hotel room dress it up as a bomb and turned out onto the baggage carousel for all to see. Needless to say he got the boot.

Listening to interview with the passengers, I think most of them thought he was a nutter, but they were still scared anyway, rightfully so IMO.
