A newborn baby girl was found abandoned in a Tempe parking lot on Sunday night, police said.
A pedestrian was walking through the parking lot of the Food City grocery store, 1338 E. Apache Blvd., around 7:45 p.m. and found the baby wrapped in a blanket inside a backpack, which was placed in a shopping cart, Tempe police said Monday.

(...)

Tempe police are seeking the public's help to identify the girl and urge that anyone with further information calls 480-350-8311.

As the article mentions, a safe haven fire station was only several hundred yards away. Glad that someone noticed her in the grocery parking lot before it was too late!

The stuffed puppy is bringing tears to my eyes. Someday her life will be good and she'll have that little reminder of when so many people cared.

Not overly emotional today no, not at all.

A pedestrian reported her to a Food City store manager, who called police.

“Hi, um, I just found a newborn baby,” the manager can be heard saying while the baby screams in the background. “And she’s beautiful.”

“I’ve never dealt with anything like this before,” he said.

The girl’s mother was nowhere to be found and the customer who first reported the baby was also long gone, the manager said.

He reported that she was breathing and appeared to be in good health.

“This is so sad,” he said.

BBM, this here turned my stone heart into mush.

I know what you mean. The wee ones tear at the heart so. Makes me admire LE, rescue workers, and Social Services all the more so for their fortitude.

These stories always astound me. The Jonas Brothers backpack sounds like it would belong to a young girl.

Jonas Brothers makes me think someone in her early 20s. They were a big deal pre-2013.
