A newborn baby girl was found abandoned in a Tempe parking lot on Sunday night, police said.
A pedestrian was walking through the parking lot of the Food City grocery store, 1338 E. Apache Blvd., around 7:45 p.m. and found the baby wrapped in a blanket inside a backpack, which was placed in a shopping cart, Tempe police said Monday.

Tempe police are seeking the public's help to identify the girl and urge that anyone with further information calls 480-350-8311.

A pedestrian reported her to a Food City store manager, who called police.

“Hi, um, I just found a newborn baby,” the manager can be heard saying while the baby screams in the background. “And she’s beautiful.”

“I’ve never dealt with anything like this before,” he said.

The girl’s mother was nowhere to be found and the customer who first reported the baby was also long gone, the manager said.

He reported that she was breathing and appeared to be in good health.

“This is so sad,” he said.
