Found Alive MT - Eric Hellmuth, 21, Bob Marshall Wilderness, 19 June 2017

MISSOULA, Mont. - A search is underway in the Bob Marshall Wilderness for Eric James Hellmuth, a 21-year-old man from Pennsylvania.

The Teton County Sheriff’s Office says Hellmuth was on a guided backpacking trip Monday when he wandered away from campsite around 2 p.m.

Searchers are looking for him in the Sun River Drainage area of the Bob Marshall Wilderness.

The sheriff’s office said helicopters from Two Bear Air and Malmstrom Air Force Base utilized night vision and FLIR technology in their overnight search.

Van Setten said ground and helicopter crews continued to search for the man in the east-central corner of the wilderness area.

He said overnight air search efforts on Wednesday will depend heavily on developing weather conditions.

Rocky Mountain District Ranger Mike Munoz says 21-year-old Eric Hellmuth was found alive on Friday.

The Choteau Acantha first reported the discovery of Hellmuth. The newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/2rLHLRI ) Hellmuth is tired and dehydrated, but in good condition.
