The search for 85-year-old Taiheng Sun is heating up after new surveillance video shows him walking near an entrance to Mission Trails Park.

Sun was last seen at his Scripps Ranch home last Thursday morning.

The surveillance video shows Sun just 50 feet from West Sycamore Park, off Stonebridge Parkway at 8 a.m.

"Mr. Sun is someone that we have seen every single morning for the past six years. He walks around the park every single morning," said Gina Manos, who is volunteering in the search.

According to police, Sun was at home on Maple Grove Lane near Sycamore Trail Road when his family left for the day, but he was gone by the time they returned around 5:30 p.m.

Sun's relatives told police he had been depressed recently, for which he takes medication, and had expressed suicidal thoughts.

He is known to take short walks around the neighborhood, but has never gone missing before, and does not drive or have access to other transportation, police said. He also doesn't know anyone in the area besides his family.

"He walked six miles in each direction on his walks. He has the ability to walk. The question is: did he find shelter? Water? We don't know," said Bob Ilkos, CEO of Scripps Ranch Association.

This is so sad. I hope this man is safe and returns to his family.

Police also released video of a person, possibly Sun, being dropped off about 3 p.m. Saturday in the 11000 block of Legacy Canyon Place by someone driving a beige 2012-2013 Ford Taurus, according to San Diego police Lt. Mike Holden.

The person who gets dropped off lingers in the area for at least 30 minutes before the sun's reflection obscures the camera's view, Holden said.

Oh no! In that area it's been so hot out for the past week.

Local here, though I'm not good at that part of the city. Hoping the best.

I'm also a local. I'm wondering where he normally took his daily walks. If I consider a 6-10 mile radius around his home on Maple Grove Lane... this could put him in quite a few places with other people on foot or maybe biking. Sycamore Canyon Preserve would be one place. Another would be the 56 bike path and adjoins canyon spaces along the way that also have foot traffic (which would put him going past the Sabre Springs Transit station that has security cameras). That would be a good area to post signs since there are bike commuters and daily walkers along that stretch. Sad.
