Known only as No. 2234 — named after the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System file number — is the body of a white female found in a wooded area of Nash County near Rocky Mount three decades ago.

Next to nothing is known about her. She was between 20 and 30 when she died. Her probable year of death was 1985 or 86. Her body was discovered by surveyors March 11, 1986. She was believed to be dead for only six months at that time.

She had long, curled brown hair that may have been dyed red. She was five feet, four inches tall. Her weight is impossible to tell from her skeletal remains.
One of the best clues to her identification is a healed fracture of her backbone and a rib. To be repaired, the injuries wouldn't have required major surgery — just time; but family members should know about the incident, according to information in the NamUs report.

The clothes she was wearing at the time of her death could help identify her. She had a black T-shirt with a “Seagram's 100 Pipers Scotch Whiskey” logo, black or gray Levis corduroy pants size 34 and sandals with white bands.

What about Billie Hall?
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/h/hall_billie.html
https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/1726/9

Height - Billie was 5 foot 3 to JD's 5 foot 4 as reported in news article
Hair - Billie reported as medium blonde but pic on Charley Project looks reddish brown to me and one pics shows her with it curled
Location - Billie was travelling in between Maryland and Florida - with a side trip to Georgia - NC is a very possible place for her to have been passing through
Physical injuries - Billie had extensive physical injuries from a previous car accident, possible that she had a back injury that is not listed?
Clothing - not reported but Billie was travelling to a biker convention - a black whiskey branded tshirt and black jeans fits?

I'm going to go ahead and submit this.

I wonder if that particular brand was distributed in the USA during the 1980s. If not it might suggest either that the deceased was a foreigner or that she was an American who had travelled to a country where the brand was sold.

Currently the brand is sold in 16 markets. It is a major one in Thailand and India, but it is also sold in Spain, Australia and Venezuela. There doesn't seem to be a complete list of its markets online and the USA is not mentioned as a market, nor is Canada.

It looks as though the brand, although owned by Pernod Ricard, is bottled and essentially HQ'd in India.

Seagram's was a US company in the 1980's. I don't remember whether 100 Pipers was sold here, but Seagram's t-shirts for their various brands were quite popular, especially among the college crowd. You could order them through the mail and buy them at liquor stores and promotional events.

Thanks, that's interesting. It suggests the brand was probably sold in the US, otherwise it's difficult to see how there'd be a market for the t-shirts. One the other hand, the big drinks companies have traditionally created brands for particular geographic markets to appeal to regional tastes, so one scotch brand would be sold in SE Asia and a different one sold in South America.

The idea was that the more unusual the t-shirt, and the liquor, more sophisticated and worldly the wearer seemed. Especially if you weren't 😆

My mum was a bartender back in the 80s & 90s and got a lot of cool promotional stuff like t-shirts, coasters, shot glasses, and beer glasses.
I wonder if she was a cocktail waitress or bartender?
Rocky Mount appears to right along I95 . If she were found near it, she may have been a dump job and could be from
just about from anywhere up and down the east coast.

I live in this area and I can say that I didn't know anything about this. Granted I was not born by this time. I did however ask my great-grandmother if she knew about this case and she did not either. I do know that the fighting crime page for the area shared this case this week, so maybe someone in the community knows something.

That does sound possible.

And I87. She could have just easily have been brought from well inland and dumped. I wonder how far one could get in 8-12 hours westbound along I87, I40, I85.

Depending on the route, you could get to the Memphis area, per Google maps.

Going northwest, Indianapolis, Cleveland, and Detroit are in range. Chicago and St. Louis are 13-14 hours.

New Orleans is also 13 hours but all of Mississippi is in range.

All by likely long-haul routes.

Thanks - that's really helpful.

I looked casually through NC and nearby state's missing women before 3/11/86. One in Virginina stood out to me:
Kimberly Britts
britts_kimberly.jpg

http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/b/britts_kimberly.html
https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/11604/8

-The timeline fits (went missing 4/6/85)
- she's just 2" taller than the estimated height
-she has long brown hair (it is described in namus as straight, but as you can see in one of the photos available her hair looks fairly curly)
-Her vehicle was found on the eastbound (which is in the direction of Rocky Mount) I-64 exit ramp with State highway 616 with blood stains
.
This should be an easy rule out/match as Kimberly and the UID both have dentals available.

What stood out to me is that Rocky Mount is the first city of any size when crossing the border into NC. I can easily imagine someone who abducted Kimberly going across state lines to throw off investigators. According to Google Maps the drive from the exit where her car was found to Rocky Mount is a little more than 3 hours. That seems reasonable for me if someone was trying to get away with murder.

I saw Billie while perusing missing women as well. She didn't strike me as likely because of her hair being blonde, but you're right it definitely looks reddish-brown in the Charley Project photo. The only other thought that strikes me is that namus has "all parts recovered" checked. Assuming that's correct, you'd think the lack of a surgical plate or orthodontic screw in the skull would rule her out. I'm glad you submitted her because even with the discrepancies a lot fits for Billie to possibly being the UID. It should be an easy enough rule out/match as they both have dentals available.

Size34 translates to ~ size 2 in US women's sizes, right? If so, she would've been tiny, IMO. And the 25cm shoe size would be size 9 in US women's.

I'm not really sure if it's 34 in length/inseam (tall) or waist, which would translate to US women's size 16-18, depending on brand

If it is a 34" inseam, the Levi's website is suggesting a height of 5'8" or taller. Which, she could have rolled them up of course to make up the slack.

http://www.levi.com/US/en_US/about/size-chart/women-size-chart

Their sizing is so confusing - but you're right, looks like it's 18/20.

I was going off a 34" hip, which would be a size 00/0, but then a 34" waist is size 14/15, but their actual size 34 is size 18/20 -_-;

Barbara Hunt may fit the narrative here.

She's a tiny thing 4'8 - 5'0" (so height off immediately), but her eye color is unknown so there's a chance whoever gave the info could be mistaken. Weighs 80-90 lbs, so if the jeans are a hip size 34" it would work. She went missing in Jan 1985 from Smyth Co, VA after she went to a local bar (Seagram's tee) and left with a car full of random women.

And that might not be what the size was in 1986. Between vanity sizing and changing styles, it gets confusing.

I seem to vaguely recall that rolled up cuffs were in style for a while?
