Murder charges have been dropped against the mother of a baby found three years ago inside an abandoned camper at a business in Benton

Jason Hann, 27, and his wife, Krissy Lynn Werntz, 23, initially were charged with capital murder by Cross County authorities. The infant girl, Montana Jean Hann, died of asphyxiation, authorities said after an autopsy.

Hann is still considered a suspect in the death of the baby girl, who had been wrapped in plastic and hidden in a camper-trailer later bought at an auction at Wynne, which is in Cross County.

A Benton man who bought the camper discovered the body while cleaning the camper Feb. 18, 2002, at B&D Transport Inc. on Bird Street.

The B&D Transport employee had bought the camper from a mini-storage facility in Wynne, where it was auctioned for non-payment of storage fees. The camper was picked up on Feb. 7 and left unopened until Feb. 18.

Werntz is now living with her mother in Indiana, a Little Rock television station reported this week.

Werntz's mother reportedly told the TV station's reporters that Hann was psychotic and that her daughter feared him so much she could not protect herself nor her children.

Her mother allegedly professed that Werntz was innocent of any wrongdoing other than not reporting Hann's criminal acts.

As the investigation proceeded, a lawyer for Hann said the child's death likely occurred in California in January 2001.

Mental evaluations ordered by the court reportedly declared Hann competent to stand trial.

Hann and Werntz were arrested in Portland, Maine, on Arkansas warrants. At the time, prosecutors said they planned to seek the death penalty against the two.

For several months, Hann and Werntz had towed the pop-up camper - with the infant's body inside - behind a recreational vehicle purchased in Jonesboro, police said. The two eventually paid for one month's rent and insurance on a storage unit in Wynne, where they left the camper, according to an affidavit.

Hann also faces charges in Vermont in connection with the 1999 fatal beating of another infant son, authorities say. A month-old baby boy who suffered rib, skull and femur fractures and other injuries was found with the couple at the time of their arrest in Maine. He was initially placed in foster care, but has been adopted, authorities confirmed.

So the mom knew about the prior acts and didn't come forward?? Or is this what her daughter is telling her. I would risk my own life to save that of my children, domestic violence or not. *&)@#$:behindbar

confessed baby killer was sentenced Friday for the murder of his infant son.

Jason Hann pleaded guilty to the charges in Vermont in 1999 and still awaits prosecution for the 2001 killing of his baby daughter in California.

Friday's plea agreement comes three years after Jason Hann first told police how he murdered his five-week old boy in Vermont and then he and the baby's mother drove around the country for 18 months with the body in a Tupperware container.

"It was an egregious case. It was a complex case,"said Rosemary Gretkowski, Chittenden County Deputy Prosecutor who co-prosecuted the case with Chittenden Deputy Prosecutor John St.Francis.

"It's incredible to think that a crime like this occurred in our community and no one knew about it, said St. Francis.

It all came to light four years ago after Jason Hann and his wife Chrissy Werntz were arrested in Maine after their infant daughter was found beaten to death in Arkansas.

Hann confessed that he beat the the eight week old girl to stop her crying in California. Then he surprised the police by confessing that while camping in Vermont two years earlier he had also killed the couple's first-child, five-week-old Jason Junior.

" What he confessed to was the baby was crying. He was upset. He picked up the child, slamming the child's head down in the crib and the baby subsequently died a couple of days later," said St. Francis.

Hann and Werntz told police they then traveled the country for 18 months with the baby's body in a Tupperware container and eventually abandoned it in Arizona.

Friday Hann plead guilty to the Vermont murder under the terms of a plea agreement.

"Mr. Hann plead guilty to second-degree murder for the murder of his baby infant boy and he received a sentence of 27 years to 30 years to serve," said Gretkowski.

So far no charges have been filed in connection with the death of the couple's infant daughter in California, but prosecutors there are expected to do that eventually.

:furious: This woman needs charging too.she had a second child after she new what he was capable of.
I hope Bubba makes him welcome.

Yeah she is "innocent" that is why she spread her legs and gave him another child to beat.

She should be charged right along side of him. She knew what he did to the first baby and still had another???
That is innocent? IMO Hann wasnt the only psycho in that pair.

He's headed to Death Row at San Quentin, and the mother is also charged with murder. Her trial is set for March 17th.

‘Serial baby killer’ sentenced to death for killing his 10-week old daughter in 2001

February 21, 2014

INDIO - A man described by a prosecutor as a “serial baby killer” who inflicted fatal injuries on his 10-week-old daughter in Desert Hot Springs less than two years after another of his infant children met a similar fate was sentenced to death today.

Jurors who convicted 39-year-old Jason Michael Hann in December also recommended he be executed for killing his daughter, Montana, in February 2001.

Hann was convicted of first-degree murder and assault on a child causing great bodily injury, along with a special circumstance allegation of having a previous murder conviction.

Krissy Lynn Werntz, the baby’s 34-year-old mother and Hann’s then- girlfriend, is also charged with murder and has a March 17 trial date.

Thanks Joe. It is good to know they finally went to trial.
