The Medical Examiner’s Office says they are human remains found at the corner of 17th and Atlantic.

Police believe the bones make up one body and based on some clothing on some of the parts they say it might be a woman.

"Ribs, a spine, pelvis, arms and legs. Some of the body parts are missing but most of the bones are intact. The body appeared to be wearing pink clothing possibly a pink jacket and other pink clothing underneath."

The body looks to be an adult or young adult. They also believe it was intact but broke up when crews started digging with machinery.

The Medical Examiner believes the bones have been there about a year.

Police say the human jaw bone fell out of a suitcase on the site earlier in the day.

Contractors digging found a 1st set of bones on 6/19, but didn't contact authorities until a jaw bone was discovered today. Lapse of 8 days.

Residents say the laundromat was torn down a year ago. Police believe, based on the level of decomposition, the body had been buried there within that time frame.

Police: Person whose remains were found in Tioga apparently died in past 2 years

Lt. Dan Brooks, of Northwest Detectives, said police do not know the person’s gender or cause of death.

He said the Medical Examiner’s Office believes the person died within the past two years.

On Tuesday afternoon, private contractors who were excavating the empty lot at 17th and Atlantic Streets saw possible human remains and contacted a supervisor, who called 911, police said.

Portions of a human skeleton, jaw bone and limbs were found within the same area, about six feet under ground, Brooks said. He said clothing and portions of luggage were also found in the area of the remains.
A one-story commercial property previously stood at the lot, whose address is 3530-32 North 17th Street, Brooks said.

another set of remains found in the same general area of Philadelphia:

A construction crew discovered the remains of a person as they excavated a vacant lot in Philadelphia's Nicetown-Tioga section on June 27??

The crew found an almost fully intact skeleton that included a skull, rib cage, spine and legs. The contractors immediately stopped work and called police.

In both instances, the remains were discovered about 6 feet underground. The remains could've been there for more than a year. It's not clear if both sets of bones were from the same skeleton.

the news clip showed a large suitcase. is it possible that the whole body was inside but it got emptied out by the heavy equipment? I cant imagine they would leave it there though.

I'm confused about the suitcase. There was a suitcase buried with the body and the jawbone was in it?

A 44-year-old North Philadelphia man has been arrested and charged in the 2014 death of his then-girlfriend, whose remains were found in June buried six feet underground at a Tioga construction site, police said Wednesday.

Jermele Hudson, also known as Jermele Bishop, of the 2800 block of North 25th Street was charged over the weekend with murder, abuse of corpse, and access-device fraud in the death of Pamela Lewis, 40, of the 2100 block of College Avenue in North Philadelphia.

Police say they discovered Lewis was in a physical altercation with Hudson who was her boyfriend at that time.

On June 27 of this year, officers investigated possible human remains in the 1700 block of West Atlantic Street. The remains were later identified as Lewis.

Hudson faces charges of murder, abuse of a corpse and related offenses.

Bumping, while I've not seen any evidence of a trial, sources indicate Jermele Hudson is incarcerated in Alternative Special Detention (that's the name of the facility), one of a cluster of Philadelphia Department of Prisons correctional facilities in the Holmesburg section of the city.
