Douglas Perry was jealous.

The now 65-year-old Spokane man wanted to get pregnant. And he seethed with jealousy.

During a horrendous four-month period in 1990, the troubled killer preyed on Spokane’s prostitutes. But it was never motivated by sex – it was hatred.

In quick succession, sex workers Yolanda Sapp, 26, Nickie Lowe, 34, and Kathy Brisbois, 38, were shot to death.

Their corpses were discovered naked, dumped like so much trash on the banks of the Spokane River.

The hunt for the serial killer went ice cold for 22 years, the file turning to dust. In 2012, Perry – now transitioned – was convicted of a firearms possession charge.

And her DNA lit up the boards like a Christmas tree: Donna Perry’s genetic blueprint matched the cold case killer.

Detectives believed that Perry changed her sex in 2000 in a bizarre attempt to escape being detected.

“She gelded herself like you would a farm animal,” Deputy Prosecutor Sharon Hedlund told the jury last week.

The Spokesman-Review says the three victims were shot some four months apart in 1990. Perry is charged with three counts of first-degree murder in the killing of 26-year-old Yolanda A. Sapp, 34-year-old Nickie I. Lowe, and 38-year-old Kathy A. Brisbois.

The cases were on a list of unsolved homicides until 2012, when Perry was convicted in federal court for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Her DNA was entered into a national database and linked to the victims.

I wonder if the fact s/he was transgender helped her to escape detection. After all, LE probably was looking for a man. But I haven't read enough to be sure.

The serial killer, who legally changed her gender and name from Douglas Perry to Donna Perry a decade after the murders, sat quietly throughout the two-and-a-half-week trial with headphones in, scribbling on a legal notepad. She stared ahead as Superior Court Judge Michael Price read the verdict aloud, then spoke briefly with her attorneys before being handcuffed and taken from the courtroom.

Family of the three slain women cried and hugged as they walked into the courthouse hallway.

Sentencing is July 2. She could receive three like sentences. Turns out she frquented the same area as the women, dated one, and didn'y change her identity until 10 years after the murders. DNA finally nailed her. I'm still curious what set her off in 1990, and were there other victims.

This is an insult to transgender persons, IMO

Police have linked Donna Perry, formerly known as Douglas Perry with Kathy Brisbois' murder.

When Richard Brisbois and Debra Bailey think of their sister Kathy Brisbois the first things that pop up aren't her struggle with drugs.

Family of cold case murder victim relieved to hear of arrest

"She had a real beautiful personality to her," said Richard Brisbois.

They also don't think about the things she did to feed her addiction but rather the upcoming holidays.

"Cause that's the last time I saw her was Christmas and we always had fun Christmas' together," said Bailey.

The male to female transsexual I knew many years ago had a history of what could be considered financial abuse of his female partners before his transition. Over the course of a decade he had begun relationships with three women, started businesses with them and then cleared out the joint bank accounts before going on to his next partner. Whether there was any physical or psychological abuse of any of these women I never heard.

Sentenced to life imprisonment on July 24.

This is one of the more bizarre stories I've heard. Spokans .22 killer I recall got a fair amount of coverage. I really wish there was more info on Douglas Perry
