In a post to its Facebook page, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office asked for the public's help to find Kelsey N. Burnette.

According to the post, Burnette is an 18-year-old girl, who was last seen walking around 5:00 in the morning on July 1 in Etowah, Tennessee.

Burnette is described as having strawberry-blonde hair, about 5'0" and weighing about 122 lbs.

Authorities said the 18-year-old girl was last seen wearing a pink shirt, shorts and Chaco sandals.

Hope not her, but...

On the Fourth of July, an Etowah resident discovered a body off the side of the road on Charles Street.

The TBI, McMinn County Sheriff’s Department and Etowah City Police are investigating.


Local police say 18 year old Kelsey Burnette was reported missing on Saturday.


They suspect this could be her, but have not made a positive identification of the body yet.

Investigators say they're waiting on the medical examiner's office to determine if the body is Kelsey.

TBI agents and Etowah police officers could be seen going in and out of the house and into the backyard, Wednesday, even searching the trash.

Meanwhile, people worry about Kelsey's safety.

"I met her at the deli at the Pig when she worked there. She's a sweet little girl," Tommie Robinson said.

Wish we knew where in Etowah she was last seen walking, so we could relate that point to Charles Street, where she was located. And where on Charles Street? In that house? Near the house? It's a very small town. How far was she from home?

Based on some SM posts I've seen, I don't think this was a murder. If it were murder, I would think the family's outcry would be to find who is responsible, not blasting the media for wanting to speak to them. JMO.

RIP, Kelsey.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is still waiting to hear from the medical examiner for a cause of death. They said that could take up to several weeks.

At this time they also have not said whether they have a suspect or person of interest.

Dough Desherla, a neighbor, said, "I'm from a big city and when they have that much crime scene tape then it's something bad has happened. It just is sad you know, you never want to lose a loved one."

Neighbors said the yard where Kelsey's body was found is abandoned.

North Etowah Baptist Church also hosted a prayer vigil Friday night to honor her life.
