FL - Raymond Luaders for student sex abuse, Poinciana, 2005

Three more charges were filed Tuesday night against a 55-year-old elementary school teacher accused of inappropriately touching children at the school, Local 6 News has learned.

Several weeks ago, Osceola County sheriff's investigators charged Chestnut Elementary School teacher Raymond Luaders with 10 counts of lewd and lascivious molestation and two counts of battery for allegedly touching students at the school.

Luaders was charged with eight counts of lewd and lascivious molestation and two counts of battery, and detectives plan to interview 11 more children who have made similar claims.

Luaders was arrested before, too, in 2002 for stalking a school volunteer. But until this year, Florida's school districts, including Osceola County, only performed background checks on employees when they were hired, relying on them to report it themselves if they got into trouble later.

A new state law created a database of teachers' fingerprints, which will immediately notify the district of an arrest. But the counties have five years to re-fingerprint all of their employees before it's fully up and running.

In 2002, Luaders completed a pre-trial diversion program to have the charge dismissed. The district wouldn't say whether he reported his arrest. So they either didn't know or chose to let him keep teaching.

Former teacher gets probation

Former Chestnut Elementary schoolteacher Raymond A. Luaders, 58, pleaded guilty to one count of battery last month in a plea bargain that dropped 11 other counts of lewd or lascivious conduct on his former students.

A judge sentenced him to one year of probation Feb. 13 for the misdemeanor.

The investigation into Luader began Nov. 18, 2005, when a 9-year-old student at the Poinciana school told her mother about inappropriate touching from the fourth-grade math teacher. Eventually, eight girls and one boy, between 8 and 12 years old, accused Luaders of patting their buttocks, touching them in the breast area or touching their legs under their skirts.

Ach, it was easy enough.

May he get hit in the head with a golf club. Well, or a golf cart. Maybe he figures it will keep him busy on the green so he doesn't have to hug little kids.
