ANOTHER tropical storm formed in the Atlantic overnight, one month after the official end of the year's record-smashing hurricane season, forecasters said.

Tropical Storm Zeta developed in the eastern Atlantic, about 1,600km south-southwest of the Azores, the Miami-based National Hurricane Centre reported.

Where did he go?

According to my hubby (part of his job requires he have some weather knowledge) he says its to cold for the storm to do anything.

I'm here, lol! This one sure shocked me!!! What a crazy year this has been!

From the AP: Forecasters have said that hurricane seasons are going to be more active than usual for at least another decade — and possibly as long as 50 years.

The AccuWeather.com Hurricane Center reports an area of low pressure in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean has intensified to Tropical Storm strength. Tropical Storm Zeta is now the 27th named storm of the record-setting 2005 Atlantic Basin Hurricane season, which officially ended on November 30.

Satellite imagery shows Zeta is located approximately 1000 miles south-southwest of the Azores.

Senior Meteorologist Bob Smerbeck is forecasting that Zeta will drift to the northwest and should take an erratic west to northwest track over the next couple of days as a couple of storms pass by to the west and north.

If Zeta maintains its strength through Sunday it would be just the second tropical storm in Atlantic history to span two years. On December 30, 1954 a tropical storm developed east of the Lesser Antilles, but the National Hurricane Center designated it as Hurricane Alice on January 1, 1955.

As far as I am concerned, Hurricaine season ended Nov 30....... :slap:

Zeta was the last and 27th named storm in a tumultuous, record-breaking 2005 Atlantic hurricane season that officially ended Nov. 30. By 10 a.m., its top sustained winds had dropped to near 35 mph, 4 mph below the threshold to be a storm, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

...It is only the second Atlantic storm in recorded history to survive into January, joining Hurricane Alice in 1955. After Zeta dissipates, Stewart said, forecasters will review records to determine whether it or Alice lasted longest into January.
