Wilford “Ray” Johnson, 91, a Longview man is missing.

His car was discovered on Friday, June 30, more than 100 miles from his home in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The silver 2007 Honda Accord abandoned in a ditch, locked, with the keys still inside.

A three-day search of the remote, wooded spot followed.

Neighbors and family said the distance doesn’t make sense to them. Johnson is of sound mind, they said.

The last reported sighting of Johnson came Thursday afternoon at the Dollar Tree store in Longview.

“While this area is very remote, at this time of year, there’s a lot of people up there at all hours,” Rosenzweig said. “We find it pretty telling that there was not a lot of information from people who had seen him or the car. There were some young men who found the car and called us, but no signs of him at all from anybody.”

A new clue surfaced Monday in the case of a missing 91-year-old Kelso man whose car was found near Mount St. Helens, narrowing the time frame for his disappearance, according to the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office.

Wilford R. “Ray” Johnson was last seen the morning of June 29 by his neighbors. Johnson’s family told officials that Johnson and his car, a silver Honda, were missing. When he hadn’t returned home by the next morning, they reported he was gone.

Searchers found his vehicle on June 30 in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Skamania County east of Cougar, but detectives have learned that a group of young men had seen Johnson’s car at about 6 p.m. the day before, according to a statement released Monday.

“This narrows the time frame from approximately 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the 29th when Mr. Johnson was seen on his daily walk in the neighborhood to about 6 p.m. when the car was spotted up near Mt. St. Helens which is more than a 2 hour drive from where Mr. Johnson lived,” the statement said.

He often wears a Navy Seabee hat, which Johnson is wearing in a photo the sheriff’s office shared.

The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office is sending letters to fast-food restaurants that Johnson would have typically visited asking them to preserve and send copies of any security video they have from June 29 in hopes Johnson may have visited one of these restaurants.

Family makes plea to find missing 91-year-old man: ‘Any kind of information, please tell us’
BBM

A Longview family is desperate for answers four months after their father disappeared.

Wilford Ray Johnson, 91, was last seen leaving his house on June 29, but hasn't been seen or heard from since.

Deputies said his car was found 100 miles away from his home abandoned in a ditch and there's virtually no clues about what happened to him.

Good lord.....how sad is this?..........

:praying:

A news article published later would state that the driver's side window was broken out and the door as dented. I am not sure if it would matter if the vehicle was still locked at that point unless someone broke the window afterwards to grab something out of the locked vehicle.

I know of this case, my 98-year-old Dad lives in Longview. With my Dad - about the time he turned 90 he went from just going to the store and that was that - to one day picking up a hitchhiker and driving the guy to Seattle. Dad was terrified of the freeway and did not have the skills for it but he did it anyway, for a stranger. He could have been carjacked or harmed. I took his keys away from him for good and got him a nurse's aide who could drive him. (I live 1200 miles away and he won't live with anyone in the family). I would have been heartbroken if I had not, and something happened, but what was so scary was his judgment deteriorated in a matter of weeks, not months. I hope this man is found and brought home.
