Missing 11-year-old New Jersey girl found dead, investigated as homicide

AbbieGail Smith had last been seen in her family's Keansburg apartment around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday and was reported missing about an hour later.

Officials say her remains were found behind the Hancock Street Apartments complex, where her family lives, in what is being described as a large container around 10:45 a.m.

I havent heard about any. This is so sad! Monmouth county sheriffs said they dont think the public needs to be on the lookout for a child killer but someone killed this child. Maybe it was domestic but either way, someone killed her

Her body was found very close to her apartment complex. In the video at the following link they mention that a stretcher was lowered from the roof of a shed close to her apartment.

It sounds like her mother reported her missing. I wonder how many people lived in the apartment with the family.

From the video at the link below they say that Abbie's body was found in a large container and that they had to climb on a low roof to access it.

Abbiegail lived with her mother, a nurse, at the Hancock Arms Apartments in Keansburg. She was last seen by her mother in the apartment at 7:45 p.m and reported missing at 8:45 p.m.

Police focused their investigation on the back porch of the apartment complex and K-9 units were used

She was found in a large container. Officials had to climb down from a low roof to get to her body.

A neighbor said the family moved in about three or four months ago. The neighbor said Smith's mother was strict and didn't let her daughter leave the apartment without supervision.

Authorities do not suspect an immediate family member was involved and believe it is an 'isolated crime' and parents have no reason to worry.

They always believe it's an isolated crime and parents have no reason to worry.
I think statistically they are often right. It's just not very reassuring without an arrest.

It seems as though it was someone in the apartment complex because one minute she was there and the next she was gone. She couldn't have gone far in just a few minutes.

Wondering out loud here but I wonder what makes them feel it was homicide vs an 11 yr old went out climbed up onto where she wasn't supposed to be fell causing injuries and death. Also what's up with the see through blanket that investigators are holding up? So many more questions than answers.

Andreas Erazo, 18, who lived in an upstairs apartment, facing murder and weapons charges is expected to appear in Judge English courtroom at 1:30 pm
Middlesex County Medical Examiners Office is expected to conduct an autopsy of the young girl today to determine the cause and manner of her death.
