Police continue searching for 4 missing Pennsylvania men, identify ‘person of interest’ in the case

July 11, 2017

The disappearance of four young men last week has touched off an extensive criminal investigation in a picturesque rural area outside of Philadelphia in one of Pennsylvania’s wealthiest counties.

[...]

Bucks County District Attorney Matthew Weintraub said in a news conference Monday that foul play is suspected in the disappearances, and that leads are “incredibly hot.” At a briefing Tuesday, Weintraub said someone in custody on unrelated charges is believed to be a “person of interest” in the case.

The first to go missing, Jimi Tara Patrick, 19, was last seen Wednesday. Then, on Friday, Mark Sturgis, 22; Tom Meo, 21; and Dean Finocchiaro, 18, also vanished. Some or all of the missing men appear to know each other, authorities said. Two of them, Sturgis and Meo, worked together at Sturgis’s father’s construction business.

Sturgis was last seen leaving his house Friday night to visit Meo, Sturgis’s father told NBC 10. When the two men didn’t show up for work Saturday morning, Sturgis’s father, Mark Potash, grew worried, he told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

[...]

Finocchiaro, a mutual friend of Sturgis and Meo, was last seen Friday night getting into a vehicle driven by another individual, who is not missing, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

[...]

Authorities on Monday arrested Cosmo DiNardo, 20, whose family owns the farm, on a previous weapons charge that had initially been dismissed.

Weintraub said Tuesday that DiNardo “is a person of interest in this case,” but he emphasized that there is a big difference between being of interest and being charged with something, noting that the chasm “is so wide that we never cross it” in some cases.

BREAKING: Cosmo DiNardo defense attorney says client confessed to 'participation in murders of four young men

BREAKING: Cosmo DiNardo defense attorney says his client has confessed to "participation in murders of four young men."

Defense attorney Paul Lang wouldn't say if others are involved in the killings, but says the four men who are murdered are the four missing since last week.

Lang says DiNardo's confession comes in exchange for the district attorney's promise not to pursue death penalty.

Cosmo DiNardo: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

1. Months Before His Arrest, DiNardo Was Left for More Than a Day Stranded in the Woods With a Brain Injury Following a Quad Biking Accident

A friend of DiNardo’s told Heavy.com that “six or seven months” before his arrest, though another source said the injury occurred closer to November 2016, DiNardo suffered a head injury following a quad biking accident. The friend said that DiNardo was stranded in the woods alone for around a day and a half with injuries, including broken bones and bleeding on his brain.

2. DiNardo Allegedly Once Bragged About Having Someone Killed Over a Debt

One of DiNardo’s friends, Eric Beitz told Philly.com that he had spoken to DiNardo in the weeks before the disappearances. Beitz said that DiNardo had been selling marijuana and guns while also bragging about having someone killed over a debt.

3. DiNardo’s Parents Are Being Subpoenaed in Relation to the Case

The Courier Times says that the home in Solebury is owned by Antonio and Sandra DiNardo of Bensalem. Cosmo DiNardo is their son. His parents have been subpoenaed in relation to the search. They are expected to be questioned about DiNardo’s whereabouts around the time of the disappearances.

4. DiNardo Planned to Become a Biology Major at Arcadia University

According to an article on Arcadia University’s website, DiNardo planned to become a biology major at the school. The piece lists him as being a member of the class of 2019. DiNardo told the site, “I’m going to go overseas, hopefully to Italy and the rest of Europe.”

5. Sturgis’ Father Described His Son & Tom Meo as ‘Just Really Good Kids’

NBC Philadelphia reports that Sturgis and Meo became friends while they worked for Sturgis’ father, Mark Potash’s, construction company. Potash told the Philadelphia Inquirer that when his son didn’t show up for work he “thought maybe they had a night of drinking and slept somewhere. That was my hope.”

But I can't help but wonder if they avoided trouble would we be in the same situation?

Food for thought - this could have happened if they were all there to buy 4 pairs of shoes. Yes, shoes are not illegal in this state and weed is. Point is, we have the benefit of hindsight to better judge exactly what the "trouble" actually was. It wasn't weed...

Also on the farm, if that's what you mean. Just "in a hill" vs. the mass grave.

I tried to read all past threads, but don't know if I even found all of them. Is there anywhere that a summary of what's been discussed already exists? I saw a few questions I have answers to, but don't want to start rehashing things already hashed later than what I just read.

Bringing over my question from the other thread. Did SK know about CD killing JP before they robbed the other three or after they all showed up on the news together?

But they weren't buying shoes, they were buying drugs from a known drug dealer. I'm saying that kids make bad choices and to say that JP didn't fit in the crowd seems to me like they are lessening the fact that NONE of them deserved to die. They were all doing the same thing.

Been away all day, was driving from VA to MA. I have a lot of catching up to do! SK was not even on my radar.

"But I hate the fact that CD had to blame the victims."

(Then I got on my soap box and typed this out and the last thread closed before I could post)

IMHO - he was always going to blame them for what happened. I grew up around a lot of kids from similar socioeconomic backgrounds. Some were just your average kids, and others were *advertiser censored******s.

Sorry, rant over. [emoji51]

Some threads eventually get a media thread. Not yet for this one. However Mods usually carry over the basics in the beginning of each new thread. Hope that helps

Amen!! Well said..my daughter is a school psychologist and you can't believe the problems with the kids & parents in the middle school level. It's heartbreaking to hear some of the problems. You hit the nail on the head

You were saying a couple of different things in the same post. I'm just making the point that yes, they all made the same fatal choice... associating with CD in any way - the reason is irrelevant. I agree that JP fitting the crowd is also irrelevant.

I also don't think it's over weed. This story isn't over yet.

I live about 30 minutes, maybe less from the farm. Driving right past it shortly on my way to evening activities.

Local news people keep repeating the same sentence with strong, blatant emphasis on the words italicized. "They were lured there on the promise of marijuana."

Perhaps they were only lured there to rob them, but there isn't anything at all to indicate that three of the four had anything worth robbing, especially at these high stakes.

There also aren't any reports of DiNardo selling recreational amounts of drugs. I'm not sure how much more I'm allowed to say about that without breaking rules.

It also doesn't make sense to me that three went missing and were seen entering associated vehicles Friday night, but neighbors didn't hear shots until Saturday. Drug deals go down (and bad) faster than that.

Thank you.

I haven't been here for years, but last I was here, we could click a quick thank you instead of creating another reply. It looks like that option isn't here anymore, but please feel free to correct me if I missed it.

Unfortunately, the two that deserve death the most out of all of this will receive 3 hots and a cot.
