Deputies are still searching for a missing elderly woman in Marinette County who suffers from dementia.

On Friday, dog handlers came in with two cadaver dogs to assist in the search.

When the cadaver dogs come out, we're looking at recovery,” said Wade Gummin, a dog handler with Canine Search Solutions. “With a cadaver dog, you can pretty much do sweeping searches, just cutting for scent. So you're watching your cadaver dog very closely, looking for… that change in behavior that might indicate there's some human remains in this area.”

However, Gummin asserts the presence of cadaver dogs don’t imply that Mrs. Fullerton is deceased.

“I don't want people to just assume that because cadaver dogs are here, that's the only possibility left,” he said. “There's always hope."

WAGNER, Wis. (WLUC) - The search still continues for 83-year-old Jean Fullerton from Wagner, Wisconsin after Saturday's organized search led by local authorities.

"No new leads, just going to keep searching until we find her," said Detective Todd Baldwin from the Marinette County Sheriff Department.

On Saturday, Wagner Fire Department and Marinette Sheriff Department held a third volunteer search to find Jean Fullerton, focusing on several acres of woods close to her home.

"It’s the same area, but we haven’t searched it like we are going to search today with people arm and arm around a home," said Baldwin.

The arm to arm search went through the woods surrounding Jean's daughter’s house, an area the family said she was familiar with.

"She’s been known to wander around that direction when she’s been lost in the past," said Baldwin.

New evidence prompts search for Wisconsin woman, missing since 2017

Recently, a man who lives north of Highway 180 – some distance from where the previous searches were – retrieved the memory card from a trail camera he hadn’t checked in years. On it, there were images of Fullerton from the morning she disappeared, according to Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve.

However, two days of searches this week failed to produce any evidence.

Therefore, the Wagner Fire Department is organizing another search for Sunday, Sept. 27, at 8:30 a.m.

Remains of missing woman apparently found

The remains of a missing Marinette County woman apparently were found Sunday afternoon in the Town of Wagner.

Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve in a statement said Jeannette Fullerton’s remains have likely been found. He said the remains will be forensically examined for confirmation that they are that of the missing woman.

The findings are about two miles from her home and about one half mile through woods and swamp from where the recent trail camera photos were taken, the sheriff said.
