Ron Schroyer, her boyfriend, passed away in 2005: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/baltimoresun/obituary.aspx?page=lifestory&pid=3112560

Big problem in Nancy's case is that he was the last one to presumably see her alive.

After some digging on Whitepages (also based on obit) it would appear that neither Nancy nor her boyfriend were Cecil County residents. According to public records, Schroyer was from Baltimore County (Owings Mills area) and he passed away in neighboring Carroll County, and Nancy's family mostly reside in Carroll Co.

Just some food for thought.

DNA could link Jane Doe to missing woman case in Cecil County

It’s a 34-year-old Cecil County cold case that’s been assigned to a handful of investigators over the years.

They were camping. The Susquehanna River the backdrop to a trip for two Harford County lovers who traveled over the Cecil County line.

20-year-old Nancy Clavell and her boyfriend Ronald Schroyer were with friends. It was warm that day – a perfect setting for Nancy who was affectionately known as ‘Bean’ to go for a walk down the shore line with Ronald.

She had a surprise. “She was recently going to provide information her boyfriend about her being pregnant. They went off together and the only person to return was Mr. Schroyer – her boyfriend,” Cpl. Michael Zack, a cold case investigator with the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office, said.

From there, he says, the details are vague. Ronald returned to the group, unsure of what happened to Nancy. She disappeared. “Basically, they had walked out there. She was out by the river area and that he had walked back and that’s the last he remembers ever seeing of her,” Zack said.

Ronald then called police, according to police records, panicked over Nancy’s whereabouts. However, investigators say he was the last person to see her. Search efforts in 1984 were vast. Crews both by boat and in the air searching for the expecting mother, but they found nothing.

“We don’t think he was overly thrilled about the pregnancy, but right now we don’t have anyone to say that he admitted it to doing harm to Nancy. We just feel like there might have been some coincidence or the fact that she might’ve been out there and slipped on a rock and fell,” Zack said.

A mystery that’s answers, perhaps, swept ashore in 1986.

I thought this as well. Only thing is that the Jane Doe was estimated to be older than Nancy, though that could have been due to decomp. Also her hair was stated to be "graying." Maybe there were some gray strands in Nancy's hair already - some people in their 20s do prematurely go gray.

Anyway, here is the WS thread for this Jane Doe: MD - North East, WhtFem, 50-59, Floating in Elk River, March '86.

MD - MD - Shannon Potter, 13, Baltimore, 3 March 1984

Nancy went missing the day after Shannon Potter in Baltimore County, 31 miles away. I know rationally people suspected Nancy's bf, but if there were other witnesses along the creek that night, maybe they could have seen someone else and provide a description.

Based off the similarities in the disappearances (going missing in the middle of the night), then any suspect in Nancy's case could be a strong suspect in Shannon's case. I wonder if LE in Cecil County and Baltimore County ever explored the possibility of the two cases being related.
