Nimes railway station in southern France has been evacuated after reports that three armed men opened fire - on the first day of the Vuelta a Espana cycling tournament.
Police have reportedly boarded a train to search for suspects and passengers have been asked to put their hands in the air.
People are being urged to avoid the area until further notice.
One witness tweeted a photo of two armed officers outside the station.
The incident reportedly occurred at 9.15pm (8.15pm UK time) and passengers were seeing fleeing the station.
