The ranger, from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, reportedly discovered the remains about 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 25 near the Turkey Point Waterfront Day Use area of the lake.

Forensic examination is to be performed on the remains to determine the person’s race, age, sex, and cause of death. Washburn University Forensic anthropology experts are assisting with the examination.

No, but he was also located as well, unfortunately found deceased. He spent 8 months in his truck at the Kansas City Airport after committing suicide. How awful that he sat that long in a public place.

KBI and Osage County Sheriff's Office Request Assistance to Identify the Remains of a Woman Found at Melvern Lake

OSAGE COUNTY – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Osage County Sheriff’s Office have requested the public’s assistance in identifying the remains of a woman found Thursday, Aug. 25 at Melvern Lake. It is believed the woman was the victim of a homicide.

Forensic anthropology experts from the Washburn University Anthropology Department assisted law enforcement in studying the remains. They reported that the remains are:

Race: Likely Hispanic (however, White cannot be ruled out)
Age Range: 35-50 years of age (but could potentially be 30-65 years of age)
Height: 5-foot-2 inches to 5-foot-8 inches tall (but could potentially be 5-foot-1 inches to 5-foot-9 inches)
Time death occurred: Likely between April 2017 and July 2017 (but could potentially have occured late Fall 2016 - July 2017)

KBI agents and Osage County Sheriff’s deputies are also releasing information about the woman’s clothing and jewelry to hopefully aid in identifying the victim.

Clothing:
Shirt size- small, brand "No Boundaries"
Pants size- 32x30, brand "Helix"
Bra size- 44, brand "Fruit of the Loom"

Jewelry/Glasses:
a silver ring that spells "love" in cursive writing
a gold or bronze ring with a red stone
gold or bronze framed eyeglasses

Photos of jewelry and glasses are below

Anyone who believes they can help identify this woman, or who has information about this crime, is asked to contact the Osage County Sheriff’s Office at 785-828-3121 or the KBI at 1-800-KS-CRIME.

No Boundaries is a brand primarily sold at Walmart and Amazon, and is more of a junior brand - not something an older woman is likely to wear unless it is second hand.

Helix is found at Khol's and is a men's brand you can also find on Amazon which would make them jeans or sweat pants.

Both brands have a hip style.

The sizes don't make sense, though - if she had a size 44 bra, how was she fitting into a size S shirt?

There are so few women in namus within 4 states that fit this. I am wondering if this could be Kendra Nystrom?

It seems extraordinary for glasses to be found on the body unless it was wrapped in something or she died where she was found/buried.

Sorry if this is a duplicate thread.

The remains of a white, possibly Hispanic, female, possibly aged 30-65, were found by a park ranger in August 2017 near Melverne Lake, Kansas:

http://www.kansascity.com/news/local/crime/article176563096.html

Jewelry she wore included: a silver ring that spells “love” in cursive writing; a gold or bronze ring with a red stone; a silver bangle bracelet; and gold or bronze-framed eyeglasses.

It's believed she fell victim to homicide possibly as early as fall 2016. She has been entered in Namus and ruled out as Norma Cavilee from Oregon and Mary Lang from Kansas:

A search through Namus finds only one Hispanic female missing from Kansas. Vivian Botz was last seen in May 1998 near Pawnee and Broadway in Wichita.

Her age and height does match the UID's, and she also had glasses, but the question would be what happened to her for 18-19 years. I'll search surrounding states also; Melvern Lake is not far from I-35 and I-335 on the map.

We do have a Lori Freitas entered who is not Hispanic, but is missing from north Topeka (closer than Wichita) and a potentially better timeline, missing since 2014:

Unfortunately, dentals and DNA are not entered, so there's no means of comparing her at this time.

I'm not sure how to merge threads on here, but these are regarding the same case.

The glasses bug me. They could be really nice readers I suppose, but to me they appear to be more like regular eyeglasses. I was ordering new glasses and it struck me that if they were ordered online or even at an optometrists office, most brands are specific to the place they are ordered. If the brand can be determined, I would think it would be fairly simple to cross-reference that with the prescription and at least narrow it down. I'm not sure if there are any patient confidentiality laws that could be a barrier to that info for LE though.
Another thought I had a while back, before I registered an account here probably, I wondered if this was someone who hasn't been reported missing and may have been recently released from prison or a care facility of some sort, with only the clothes and accessories they were admitted with.
This is a little more than an hours drive away from me, so I was fiddling with Google maps trying to find bus routes or DOC/medical/psychiatric facilities within walking distance of where she was found, and I didn't find many. I did find a substance abuse rehab facility that is outpatient mostly but does have several inpatient beds for women only, and if I remember correctly it was in the town closest to the lake. I need to re-research that and post it, but it might not be until later this week.
