GARY — Including some wounds inflicted after she died, but not all the cuts from trying to block the attack, the woman found dead Monday morning had been stabbed 158 times.

“It was a very violent scene,” Detective Cpl. Thomas Decanter said.

...She was found wearing only socks on a concrete slab behind a vacant house in the 300 block of Monroe Street on Monday morning.

Renaudo had been brutally stabbed in the chest, abdomen and limbs repeatedly. Her hands showed signs of numerous defensive wounds, police said.

I can't imagine the rage that someone has inside of them to stab another human being 158 times.
It's just so sad.

I agree. The horror of it.

I live about 15 minutes away from Gary, and it is sad the amount of horrific crimes that I hear about. It seems like every day, something new...

And a few blocks away, there was an incident of an ex boyfriend breaking in and raping and stabbing his exgirlfriend. She survived. LE is not commenting on whether or not they are related. Ex boyfriend was arrested.

The coroner's office identified the dead woman Wednesday as Edith Renaudo, 36, 5022 W. 19th Place. Renaudo, stabbed more than 50 times, was discovered lying in the alley behind 308 Monroe St., said a spokesman.

Court records state that hours earlier, Gary police went to an apartment on West 5th Avenue on a report of a rape in progress. A naked, bleeding 56-year-old woman met them at the door to the building and screamed, "He's in the back alley."

Officers found Curtis Sample Jr., who ran. They caught him and saw he was covered in blood. When they patted him down, they found a blood-covered folding knife in his pocket.

From April 2009:

Six months after receiving a 95-year prison sentence for stabbing a woman in 2006, Curtis Sample II faces another 65 years for stabbing a different woman to death.

Sample, 34, of Gary, pleaded guilty Wednesday to murder for Edith Renaudo's death, according to the Lake County prosecutor's office.
