Officers have asked the public for help identifying the body, found by a member of the public in Devilla Forest, near Kincardine, at about midday on Sunday.

The remains are thought to be of a man, wearing glasses, outdoor clothing and carrying a red and black rucksack.

Human remains found in a Fife forest have been identified as a 26-year-old man who lived in Dunfermline.

The body was found by members of the public in the Devilla Forest, near Kincardine, on Sunday 3 September.

The man, who was originally from the Tees Valley in England, was last seen on Thursday 17 August wearing outdoor clothing.

Police Scotland said the family of a man from north-east of England, who lived locally, have identified the man's body.

However, they do not wish him to be publicly named.
