Police added that the public safety unit and the marine unit will be assisting homicide detectives in the investigation by canvassing the area and conducting a grid search to look for more evidence.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Det. Short at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 5407.

Once on scene, a coroner identified "signs of trauma" on the remains. A post-mortem examination will be later conducted today to determine a cause of death.

Police say the service’s homicide unit is now charge of the investigation, which is still in its preliminary stages

I heard that Oshawa harbour and beach have been pretty much closed to the public due to high water levels since spring.

I was there 2 weeks ago and the water front was open there wa even a life guard on that beach.

Police said a preliminary examination at the scene revealed signs of trauma. Officers on shore searched the area throughout the day, assisted by the police marine unit and a drone.

A review of missing persons reports from Durham and other jurisdictions would be conducted, Tudos said. It's too early to speculate about the identity of the woman or how her body part came to be in the water, he said.

"We don't have any information right now on the origin of this victim," Tudos said. "It's a large body of water that connects with Canada and the U.S. The body could have come from anywhere."

Large, clear video of the scene.

Autopsy on torso found in Oshawa Harbour was inconclusive
Police also said that they have not yet been able to identify who the remains belong to and will enlist the Centre of Forensic Sciences in an effort to obtain a DNA profile.

“DRPS homicide investigators are reaching out to neighbouring police services to look into any outstanding missing person files that may assist them with the identification of the victim,” the release said.

Wish they would give some idea as to how long ago the person was murdered, it would help figure out who went missing in that time frame, imo.

Durham police investigate torso find as a homicide

Police urge people to stop posting photos of the woman's torso on social media, as they say it will tamper with their investigation.
Investigators are still searching missing person’s reports and ask anyone who has information about the case to contact the Durham homicide unit at 1-888-579-1520.

Anonymous tips can also be called in to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
Unless the torso had identifying tattoos, or whatever, why the heck would anyone post those pics?? imo

“Investigators urge anyone with photographic evidence to contact them as soon as possible,” Constable George Tudos said in a media release sent out Friday. “Police also urge people to refrain from posting such photographs on social media as this may interfere with the successful investigation of this homicide.”

I wish they had more info out in the public as well. There are so many missing women, a wee bit of detail from the DPS could lead us in a direction in solving this case and getting this women home...

My first time in this area was a few weeks ago, and i was really surprised to huge ocean type ships in the port. The kind of ships that carry shipping containers and go all over the world.... Makes me wonder, this women could be from anywhere...

Horrible news! Durham police have identified the body part found on the Oshawa lakefront last September as that of a missing 18-year-old woman.

A fisherman discovered the torso of a woman floating in the water near the Oshawa Harbour back on September 11.

A preliminary examination identified signs of trauma but a post mortem failed to determine the exact cause of death.

DNA tests have confirmed the body part belonged to Rori Hache, who was reported missing back on August 29, 2017.
