Orion Krause, Recent college graduate accused of killing 4 in Groton described as kind musician
.

<snip>
A recent college graduate accused of killing his mother, grandparents and a caregiver was described Monday as a good friend and talented jazz musician who showed no signs that he was troubled.

<snip>
Orion Krause, who was charged in the slayings, was ordered Monday to be sent to Bridgewater State Hospital pending a competency hearing. After the killings Friday, a neighbor said the 22-year-old Oberlin College graduate from Rockport, Maine, showed up naked and muddy at his home in Groton, a town about 40 miles (65 kilometers) northwest of Boston, and said he ‘‘just murdered four people.’’

When 22-year-old Orion Krause left his family's Rockport, Maine home on Thursday night, his mother had some concerns about where he was going.
Elizabeth Krause called police to report her concern and what kind of car her son was driving.
The next day, she was dead.

"Later on Friday morning, Orion Krause contacted his mother again and asked for a ride back home to Maine," Ryan said. His mother agreed to get him. "The original plan was for them to return back to the family home at some point a decision was made to go and visit Orion's grandparents in Groton."

I opened the door and he said, 'I need help,'" Wagner Alcocer recalled Saturday afternoon. "I closed the door on him because he was naked, covered in mud and I didn't know what he had in his hands
.
Alcocer opened the door again when he saw that the man, later identified as Orion Krause, had nothing on him.

"He said I need help, I need help, I murdered four people," Wagner told MassLive in an interview.

Thank you Steleheart.

Welcome. Since he's gone to Bridgewater I'm not sure we're going to hear much on this for a while. But these kinds of murders muddle the logic in my mind.

I can't wrap my head around the how, just HOW.
The mechanics of such a murder escape me. A baseball bat takes some time to murder someone with? Not like a gun where you can run from room to room fairly quickly.
How is it that no one was able to escape his rampage?

I'm stuck on this now Farm, thanks a lot, haha

Well they were elderly and he was young and strong and whatever transpired in that home when he walked in must have happened fast. One of the deseased was found outside so had time to run out of the house but not fast enough it seems.
What is so mind boggling is no one could have ever seen this coming from what is being reported so far. A young seemingly smart and talented young man.
I am sure more will come out and I thought that I read his next court date is October?
Being on a tablet I am unable to link anything so thank you again for your help Steleheart.

Why did his mom call the police the first time? I feel like I'm missing something.

This is heartbreaking. He is at a prime age for schizophrenia to emerge.

While schizophrenics are more likely to kill themselves, murder is also a risk. Parents don't always know what to do initially. It sounds as if his mother recognized a problem and tried to alert LE. But she probably felt he was more a danger to himself. Getting help is extremely difficult as this article shows.

If someone with schizophrenia murders, it is more likely to be a family member than a stranger and usually occurs before treatment has started. This article makes the point that having to show that a person is a danger to themselves or others is a barrier to getting early help.

In no way are most schizophrenic sufferers violent, but it's difficult to predict who will be. I feel very sorry for Orion and his remaining family if these murders occurred because of undiagnosed mental illness that suddenly appeared. It's tragic all around. :(

I agree that it sounds like a mental break. I'm guessing there was some erratic behavior beforehand that caused his mom to alert police.

I see people are already attacking him in comments under his facebook posts. I don't understand why people feel the need to do that before they even know what is going on. He will probably never see those comments, but his loved ones will and I think they've got enough to worry about right now.

I also read that he has a twin brother and his mother did not give birth to them until she was 40. They were very wanted and loved.
I also am thinking some kind of mental break/issue and schizophrenia because of his age. But who knows as not much is out yet.
I do not have Facebook so am unable to see the comments but I agree lets jump the gun. Unless the people making the comments know something we dont.
But what I have seen reported so far is that no one can believe this has happened which made me think a mental break first off.

It crossed my mind because of his age, But a brutal time consuming slaying of multiple victims - I am thinking some other psychosis. I wish I had more on his childhood, college years.

They usually don't. They just spout off, IMO

There was a reason she was concerned. Imagine her relief when he called her for a ride home. Only to then Become one of the victims.

that is exactly what I was thinking.

my friend lives in Groton and posted this on fb other day. she said her town hadn't had a murder in a long while :(

for some reason, I just feel sad here. I really think he had a psychotic break :*(

I agree, and it saddens me too. It's an awful disease. We've been discussing schizophrenia on the Phelps thread. Orion seems to be a much more sympathetic young man than Matthew Phelps, and I expect that public sentiment toward each one will differ. It will be tragically interesting to see how these two cases unfold.

when my son was on chemo and had his psychotic break from the prednisone, if he had done something I would have thought, it was not him at all.
