Investigators believe that a Russian couple knocked their victims out with sedatives, then skinned them alive. Afterward, police say, they ate parts of their victims, froze the remains or packed them in jars filled with saline solution. At times, the couple tried to turn soldiers at the military academy where they worked into unwitting cannibals, slipping “canned human meat” into their food.

And people in the city of Krasnodar may never have known about any of it if not for a cellphone lying on a city street, authorities say. City police have arrested the couple — Natalia Baksheeva and her husband, 35-year-old Dmitry Baksheev — who authorities say may be responsible for the deaths or disappearances of as many as 30 people in the city of 750,000 in the southwestern tip of Russia, about five hours from Sochi.

A Russian couple are suspected of dozens of cases of cannibalism after they were found with pictures of human body parts, including a cooked human head on a platter of oranges.

Entrepreneur Vitaly Yakubenko told local media outlets Natalya had interviewed for a chef job at his restaurant in 2010, asking several questions about where he bought his ingredients while Dmitry waited outside.

“She kept asking everything about meat, whether I wanted to buy it cheaper,” Yakubenko told Komsomolskaya Pravda. “Apparently she wanted to sell human meat in my bistro.”

In a statement, the Investigative Committee of the Krasnodar Territory confirmed that during the search "food fragments and frozen meat pieces of unknown origin were seized in the kitchen".

They confirmed forensic testing was being done to determine if the items were human or animal.

Russian media report that photographs found printed in the apartment and on mobile phones could suggest the killings could date back almost two decades.

OMG...I saw this on facebook yesterday and thought it was one of those fake news stories. I wish I had been right. :yuck:

And to think this case broke because of a found cell phone.

Can you imagine having to go through all of the stuff in the apartment not knowing what you could come across? So disgusting.

It's not often I get shocked here, but....OMG...the pies...WTF
:hills:

I saw this on my FB feed and thought it was fake news so didn't bother reading. But now that MSM has picked it up, I'll take a gander. I already know I'm going to be shocked.
