I remember reading about this somewhere several years ago...
glad to see justice finally serverd!

Twenty-seven years after a clown carrying flowers and two balloons shot a woman to death at her front door, Florida authorities announced an arrest in one of the more bizarre cold case investigations in a state known for bizarre crimes.

Sheila Keen Warren, 54, was arrested without incident in Washington County, Virginia, on a charge of first-degree murder with use of a firearm in the killing of Marlene Warren, 40 — her current husband's previous wife — in 1990, officials said Tuesday.

[....]

Warren had been a suspect in the murder almost from the beginning, but prosecutors never had enough evidence to charge her until new technology allowed them to retest DNA evidence after the cold case was reopened in 2014.

Twenty-seven years ago a clown walked up to the front door of Marlene Warren's Wellington, Florida house and fatally shot her.

Now, nearly three decades later, police say they've identified the alleged killer clown: Sheila Keen Warren, 54, who later married Marlene Warren's widower,*Michael Warren.
[...]

Police have not said whether Michael Warren was involved in his former wife's death.
[...]

"Witnesses were re-contacted and additional DNA analysis was conducted," the Sheriff's Office said in its release. "It was also learned that Sheila Keen had married Michael Warren, Marlene Warren’s husband, in 2002. Both had been living in Tennessee operating a restaurant together. As a result of the investigation, probable cause was established linking Sheila Keen Warren to the*murder*of Marlene Warren."

The case was then presented in late August to a grand jury, which issued a true bill for First Degree Murder, which led to an arrest warrant for Sheila Keen Warren.

The new IT movie (IT by Stephen king) released this year (2017) reminded me that back in 1990 there was a tv mini series of IT. In case you don't know, IT is about a killer clown. Maybe a reach, but since this case was in 1990 and the TV movie was on tv in 1990 it made me wonder if that gave him some ideas. Maybe not but I wondered.

In court Monday, defense attorney Richard Lubin waived Keen-Warren’s right to a speedy trial, and Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Samantha Schosberg Feuer set the next status hearing for Jan. 23.

Feuer retained Keen-Warren’s “no bond” status. The judge also agreed to a request by Lubin that Keen-Warren need not be present at status hearings.

Lubin has said Keen-Warren will plead not guilty.

In Monday’s hearing, which lasted about two minutes, Lubin told the judge he recently had received a voluminous batch of documents, both electronically and on paper, from prosecutors as part of the trial’s “discovery” stage and wanted time to digest them.

Prosecutors: DNA Ties Suspected Killer Clown to Getaway Car
Palm Beach County prosecutors released late Thursday evidence that they say helped them and sheriff's detectives to arrest Keen in September at the Abington, Virginia, home she shared with her husband — Michael Warren, Marlene Warren's widower. The evidence includes hundreds of pages of witness statements, photographs, reports and maps. It also says recent DNA tests conducted by the FBI say hair found in a car linked to the slaying could have come from Sheila Keen Warren.

A Palm Beach County Judge has set jury selection in the murder trial of Sheila Keen Warren for Jan. 31, 2020.

Sheila Keen, as she was known at the time, was dressed like a clown when she fatally shot Marlene Warren at her Wellington home on May 26, 1990.

"Marlene answered the front door and the clown had two balloons, as well as a bouquet of flowers, and went to hand Marlene those items," McCann told reporters.

Marlene Warren, who had been eating breakfast with her then-22-year-old son and several of his friends, was surprised and commented, "How nice."

"It was at that time that the clown pulled out a gun and shot Marlene in the face," McCann said.

The clown then calmly walked back to the white Chrysler LeBaron in which she had arrived and drove away.

Marlene Warren died at a hospital two days later.

Prosecutors ‘reevaluating’ death penalty for woman charged in Wellington clown case
The woman who investigators say dressed as a clown and fatally shot the then-wife of her now-husband may not have to wonder if a jury could sentence her to death if it finds her guilty in the 1990 Wellington homicide.

During a brief hearing Tuesday morning, Sheila Keen-Warren’s attorney, Richard Lubin, explained to the judge of the continued difficulties the defense team faces as it interviews witnesses and goes through evidence in the nearly 30-year-old case, including some extended efforts it must make because it is a capital case.
