The Marion County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that a detective has been assigned to the case of a missing Dunnellon woman.

Rachel Marie Campbell, 26, was seen leaving her home in Dunnellon on Aug. 4, possibly heading north on Southwest 194th Avenue toward Chatmire. Her family has not heard from her since and has concern for her well-being, according to the MCSO statement.

Campbell stands 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds. She has blue eyes and red/auburn hair.

Marion County authorities are trying to identify human remains found Oct. 13 in Chatmire, just north of Dunnellon.

  • Rachel Campbell was last seen Aug. 4
  • Human remains were found Oct. 13 in Chatmire
  • Investigators have asked for Campbell's hair to compare DNA

The remains were found in a vacant lot near 19897 SW 107th Lane.

Chatmire is the same area authorities say 27-year-old Rachel Campbell was possibly heading to after leaving her Dunnellon home.

Campbell hasn't been seen or heard from since Aug. 4, and her family is concerned the remains could be hers.

...

Williams says investigators have asked for some of Campbell's hair to test and see if the DNA matches the remains.

Dunnellon family wonders: Could remains found be Rachel Campbell?

I can't find any update on these remains and whether they ruled Rachel out or identified the remains as someone else. Could they still be waiting on the DNA results?
