Ferndale woman jailed for not vaccinating son
Charles E. Ramirez, The Detroit News Published 1:41 p.m. ET Oct. 4, 2017

An Oakland County Circuit Court judge sentenced a woman Wednesday to seven days in jail for refusing to vaccinate her child.

Rebecca Bredow, of Ferndale, was given a week in jail for refusing a court*order to vaccinate her 9-year-old son. A judge previously ordered Bredow to have the boy vaccinated by Wednesday.

"It's clear to me you don't care about (court) orders, even if you agree to them," Judge Karen McDonald told Bredow during her contempt of court hearing Wednesday in Pontiac. "You've repeatedly stated over the past several days publicly that you will not follow this court order, so I'm sentencing you to seven days in jail." ...

I'm sorry but, good and well done judge Karen McDonald.
There is no good reason for not protecting your baby's with proven medicine.

Michigan mom jailed after failing to follow judge's orders to vaccinate son

A Metro Detroit mother has been ordered to serve seven days in jail after failing to follow an Oakland County Judge's orders to vaccinate her 9-year-old son.*

The Associated Press reports Rebecca Bredow was jailed on Wednesday, Oct. 4 after violating an agreement to have her and her ex-husband's son vaccinated. Judge Karen McDonald ruled that the father "gets a say" in the situation, even though Bredow is the primary caregiver.*

Last week,*Bredow told Detroit-area TV station WXYZ that the judge ordered her to vaccinate her son within the week or she would go to jail. The woman said the situation stemmed from an agreement*with her ex-husband to space out and delay some of the vaccines, but that the vaccinations started to get grouped together...*

Oakland County Woman Ordered To Jail After Refusing To Vaccinate Her*Son

PONTIAC (WWJ) – An Oakland County woman has been sentenced to seven days in jail after refusing*to comply with an order to vaccinate her 9-year-old son.

The order was handed down in Oakland County Circuit Court Wednesday, at which time Judge Karen McDonald also announced that the boy would be vaccinated today.

In explaining her decision, McDonald pointed out that Rebecca Breedow of Ferndale, together with her attorney, signed an order in November, 2016, agreeing that the child would be vaccinated. McDonald said that there was never an appeal of that order, and that Breedow*never asked to have the order set aside...

That is debatable (which I am not going to do), but I am currently sitting here with an arm I can barely move due to a vaccine injury. Vaccine injuries do happen and should not be broad-bushed off. Normally I don't say anything, but my arm is extra painful today so sitting on my hands is not possible. ;) :D

That said, she herself signed an agreement to vaccinate which became a court order, and then didn't follow the court order.

So, she was jailed for being in contempt of court. Not for not vaccinating. I get really irritated by skewered baiting headlines.

Quick, someone hand me a Snickers bar... :D

I agree. I can't believe it's gotten so extreme we have to put parents in jail.

Will this do? :cupcake:

I will get a flu shot next Tuesday during my annual physical. The shot can be uncomfortable, but nurses remind patients to move their arm around for several hours afterwards to prevent soreness. Works for me.

I am not sure what to think as my own grandson is being vaccinated, but the way it is being done is to space it out. My daughter opted for private treatment as she was very concerned about the effects of the actual vaccination as in some cases they cause autism. It is rare, but this was her fear. She was not keen to vaccinate, and in the UK it is parental choice although that choice is frowned upon. This was a good solution for someone with genuine fears. In the mean time, kids in the area are going down with scarlet fever for which there is currently no vaccine.

While one should opt on the side of caution, there are reasons why people do not wish to vaccinate. It is not neglect.

(Also, if you were vaccinated against whooping cough in the 50's you are no longer immune. This vaccine as I well know having had it in the last three years, wears off. I now wonder what other things older people need to be vaccinated against. Personally, I was wary, but did vaccinate.)

Or at least, this is the belief or some people. Others say the research this is based on was fraudulent. The concern centres round the measles, mumps and rubella shots. They usually give them in combination.

It is worth knowing this because hospitals tell you it is "not whooping cough" until you are investigated for cancer and the specialist does the test the hospital should have done. I should know. )

Awe thanks. :loveyou:

(Mine's an actual injury... from a vaccination 12 years ago... don't want to debate because it's not that I don't 'believe' in vaccines. My kids have gotten vaccines. Just not the one that damaged me because it could do the same to them. However I've ran into so many people who don't get it and want to cast judgment without knowledge. I've learned to shrug it off.... mostly. My comment wasn't meant defensive earlier, more in a way of trying to raise some awareness that not every vaccine is good for everyone. Blanket statements just don't help).

MOAR CUPCAKES PLZ. :D

Vaccines do not cause autism. Please stop spreading lies. This deliberate myth by Andrew Wakefield has been debunked over and over ~ he faked all his so called results.

:tantrum:

My mom would gladly have an injured arm over her post polio syndrome. I have no idea how a vaccine caused an injured arm, but I will take you at your word. Still, the benefits to vaccines outweigh any possible negatives by such a wide margin that I will judge anyone who does not vaccinate their child unless that child is imunosuppressed or has had a life threatening reaction to an earlier vaccine.

This woman should be in jail and not just for defying the court order. Parents who do not vaccinate their children are potential murderers and their unvaccinated children are the weapons. My mother had aggressive breast cancer 13 years ago. Surgery, chemo, and radiation saved her life. An unvaccinated child who has been exposed to any of the illnesses/diseases vaccines protect them from who comes in contact with my mother will probably kill her. Tonight I sit in the hospital while my mother recovers from Ovarian cancer surgery preceded by three rounds of chemo. You don't get more at risk from unvaccinated kids than that. I will agree that anyone's unvaccinated child can visit with my mother after, and only after, that parent agrees to expose their unvaccinated child to all illnesses/diseases preventable by vaccination. 6 months after exposure, if said child is still alive, that child may visit my mom. Who wants to go first?

AUTISM IS NOT CAUSED BY VACCINES!! This lie has got to stop. They are not made from dead babies. They are not full of poison and lead and whatever else anyone can think up. GET YOUR CHILDREN VACCINATED!

As far as I am concerned vaccinations are not choices. They are public health basics. End of story. End of rant.

You are entitled to your opinion and I already said I wasn't going to debate, but you have no idea about the amount of physical pain and heartache this injury is causing me and the snipped remark is very hurtful. Sometimes I can't even wipe my own behind or pull up my pants and my 8 year old has to help his mom get dressed. Last week alone I had to take 4 sick days because of my non functional arm. And that's all the top of the iceberg.

I am sorry your mom has to deal with post polio syndrome, but in your anger about that please do not belittle me or my circumstances because I can assure you they are not fun, or minor. My injury is just as valid as hers.

Ferndale mother who was jailed for not vaccinating son loses primary custody

PONTIAC, Mich. - A Ferndale woman plans to appeal a decision made during mediation in a custody suit Wednesday after she spent nearly a week in jail for refusing an order to vaccinate her 9-year-old son.

Rebecca Bredow will now split custody of the boy with her former husband, James Horne. Bredow had majority custody prior to the hearing.

"Today was supposed to be a review on vaccinations," Bredow said. "I wasn't expecting to lose primary custody today of my son. I feel a bit spun around and in shock expecting him to come home today and I'm a little upset." ...

Spacing out vaccinations does nothing but make parents feel better.

No wait, it could actually harm children:

I was a hold out for the chicken pox vaccine when introduced. I refused time and time again. I was harrassed by my children's pediatrician and his Staf. I held out until it became law. I knew what Chicken pox could do. I wasn't so sure about the New vaccine. The same goes for the hpv vaccine. I have refused that as well. I agree some vaccines are needed, but I'm uncomfortable with blind compliance when it comes to the health of your children. I refuse all canine shots for my dogs as well. They do get mandatory rabies shots, but that is all.
I feel for this mom. I can't say vaccines were connected to autism. I can't say they are not. Scientists change their minds way more often than I am comfortable with regarding what's healthy and what is not.
