Hello all,

As i/we sit here anxioooously awaiting the DNA results return on POI perp Daniel Nations ans related to the case of Abigail Williams and Liberty German, I'm starting this thread as a potential resource for future reference.

It seems that one of the main questions that often comes up in various cases is "How long til we get the DNA back?". I thought we could note some different examples here.

Please include if you have the time (if not a quick summary statement is fine):

1. Victim's name, location and general circumstances surrounding the case.
2. Who's DNA was submitted (examples: POI, perp, UID, offspring, and/or other others) and description of type of comparison made (for example NAMUS rule out submission, crime scene item, etc.).
3. Which lab it was sent to.
4. Date it was submitted.
5. Date it came back.
6. DNA results (positive or negative match).
7. Summary statement: ("It took (insert number here) hours/days/weeks/months to get the DNA back).
8. Link to WS thread
9. Any applicable links (msm, resources, etc)

*This thread will require some research, as even those very familiar with a particular case will have to go back and check dates, etc., so thank you for your time, efforts and interest in advance.

*Please feel free to comment, ask questions, make additions, etc., as this is a discussion thread.

*Mods, I hope this thread is okay I've placed this thread in the right place, if not please move, etc.

I'll start:

Victim: Savanna Greywind, 8 months pregnant, was abducted from Fargo, SD and murdered.
Motive: Fetal Abduction by a couple who were Savanna's neighbors.
Suspects in custody. Savanna died, but her baby survived. Before the baby could be returned to the father of her baby, a DNA match had to be made comparing the baby's DNA to Savanna's boyfriend's DNA.

"At 1:41 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24 (2017), police executed a search warrant on Apartment 5."....snip ...he baby was taken to Sanford Children’s Hospital and placed under protective custody of Cass County Social Services until DNA could determine whether Savanna and her boyfriend, Ashton, were the parents. DNA tests have since proven that they are the parents, and Ashton has obtained legal custody of his daughter, Haisley Jo."
DNA test results confirm boyfriend of Savanna Greywind is father

"FARGO, N.D. --The boyfriend of slain Fargo woman Savanna Greywind says DNA tests have confirmed that he and Greywind are the parents of a newborn girl found in the apartment of two people charged in the case."

Snip

"Ashton Matheny tells The Forum newspaper that legal custody of the baby hasn't been awarded, but he believes it will happen soon. He said the baby has been in his care for nearly a week."

So, it seems the DNA came back rather quickly in this case, approx 10 days?

On 9/17/2015, toddler Kyrian Knox was reported missing. He had been left by his mother at her friends fathers house while she and her friend were moving to Iowa.

I also want to add - last November, the caretaker, Kamel Harris was finally arrested for Kyrians death. It is said that he was killed because he cried too much, after being given regular milk when he was lactose intolerant. To date, the rest of Kyrian's remains have not been found.

"Remains believed to belong to Malik Drummond were found December 2, 2015 in a remote area of Jackson County."

"Feb 12, 2016 01:47 PM

SEARCY, AR (KAIT) - The Searcy Police Department officially confirmed the identity of human remains found in December, 2015 in rural Jackson County.

According to Steve Hernandez, public information officer for Searcy police, the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock examined the remains and determined*that the body belongs to Malik Drummond."

So, in Malik's case it took just a little over 2 months.

I forgot to add to my first post that the type of DNA found and the condition is also applicable.

Processing DNA for a CODIS match takes a bit over 24 hours. Add to this the time to get the sample to the lab and set up a press conference to announce the results. That would be the minimum time for a high priority case.

As I recall, the body of Jessica Ridgeway was positively identified from a DNA match and announced to the public about 48 hours after being found.

(Does anyone know why my images show up initially then turn into a little square box? See post #2, Tia.)
