Tellis faces life in prison without parole if convicted, according to an April 18 court filing in which state prosecutors disclosed they wouldn't seek the death penalty. With trial looming in the north Mississippi city of Batesville, District Attorney John Champion of Panola County, has declined to discuss details of the case.

Tellis' lawyers also didn't return calls seeking comment.

Is live coverage just for the actual trial or jury selection as well?

Re live streaming on Jury selection - I haven't seen any - just went to the Law-Newz place and they don't have anything. I have two tweeters open, and nothing....

If you find anything - please post! TIA!

Is live coverage just for the actual trial or jury selection as well?

I am no expert, but the following seems to indicate that jury selection cannot be covered in court via live streaming:

Mississippi Rules For Electronic And Photographic Coverage
Of Judicial Proceedings

Rule 4. Restrictions.

(b) No members or potential members of the jury may be recorded or
shown at any time prior to their dismissal, nor shall the jury selection process
be subject to electronic coverage.

As I post this, LawNewz is discussing the case live.

if you can't read the tweet above - it says:
Hey @TrueCrimeJeanne-- I'll be there tomorrow. Jury selection is today in Pike County. We will stream on @FOX13Memphis Facebook.

I tried to post was interrupted an hour ago. But the thread was closed.

I hope it is OK to post here on the new thread. If not just post and I will delete. I do not want to clutter up the thread. This is from CNN special.
Cole Hanley the Courtland fire chief said after arriving at the fully engulfed car fire he looked over at some trees and saw a woman wearing only panties. He looked at her face although her mouth had charcoal appearance he recognized that it was Jessica. He went over to provide aid and she kept saying to him,"Help me they set me on fire and I am going to die". Cole assured her that help was there and she was now safe. Cole asked who did this to her? Even though her burns were causing her air passages to close-off; she managed to say Eric or Derrick. It was later that authorities realized because of the severity of her burns her speech likely was intelligible.

Jessica's best friend said that same morning (they being Kesha, Jessica and Quinton )drove around Courtland together. Kesha could not understand Jessica's possible interest or attraction to Quinton.

When the DA Champion spoke of the timeline he indicated the wide angle of the M&M camera's possibly recorded Jessica picking up Quinton?(I am fuzzy on this point please correct me if I misunderstood Champion)

Now here is where another point I got confused. Did someone else get a better context of where gas can man,Quinton's mother's home and the mobile home identified where Quinton and Jessica went? Were all these residencies behind the M&M? Is this the cryptic point of Tom Dees reporting 'you' have to walk the area to figure it out?

Champion said there were 3 people at mobile they stopped at (is that the mobile Quinton also lived?). These 3 confirmed to detectives that Quinton was in the car with her. From there they went to Batesville. The video showed a Taco Bell so I assume that's where they went to grab a bite to eat. Then they turned back to Courtland. Now it's here Champion lost me. So if anyone was able to follow his timeline from this point on please post.

I am going to have to rewatch the program. Another important point is the fire destroyed any DNA that might have been found at the CS. The good news is Quinton's DNA was found on Jessica's car keys. Her keys had been tossed out of a vehicle sometime later & were located on the side of the road!

The Louisiana graduate student that Quinton stabbed to death and been tortured. She had a very long painful death. It was like he enjoyed playing with his prey. The thrill for him was the max suffering he could instill until his victim would die. So I believe both Jessica and the Louisiana victim were thrill kills. He enjoyed every moment of watching them suffer. They made the point with Quinton this may just be the top of the iceberg. Quinton is demonic :devil:and I will be here to watch for justice to be served.

Champion does not speak in a linear style. Champion tends to repeat things and afterward I am never quite sure he even had a point ? Mostly he just rambles. At least that's my frustration with him & it's as true now as it was way back in 2014.

:cow:

Does anyone have thoughts on why they're not seeking the DP? Louisiana gets him next and they also have it. If he's guilty of either of these crimes then dozing off for eternity from a quick and painless injection seems nowhere near the kind of punishment he deserves. IDK, if given the choice, Angola is not where one would choose to spend their last days/years so maybe there's some rhyme to there reason.

Thanks for this new information, DeDee. There are certain aspects disclosed about this Ming-Chen Hsiao murder investigation in Monroe, LA, that I find very disturbing. Details of her murder emerged from police interviews with one Eric Hill Jr, who it turns out dated Quentin Tellis' sister in Courtland, MS. Hill gave details about the crime in Monroe only the murderer or someone else present could have known. Initially he attempted to convince the police that one Curtis Lemons had committed the murder and later shared those details with Hill. But during a subsequent interview, Hill admitted to police he falsely accused Lemons because he was angry with him, that the details of the murder had actually come from a conversation with Quentin Tellis. That information lead to further investigation of Tellis, and to his ultimately being charged with first degree murder in LA.

What bothers me about all of this is: weren't Jessica Chambers' alleged comments to first responders at the scene something like, "Eric did this." Could she have meant Eric Hill, cousin of Chakita Jackson, who "hung out" with Tellis? Might he have been an eyewitness to the murder in Courtland, or perhaps even an accomplice? Since Eric Hill Jr rolled over on Quentin Tellis in Monroe, is he about to roll over on him in Batesville, too? Why did he not admit recognizing Quentin Tellis' photograph in a photo lineup in Monroe the first time it was shown by police?

More questions than answers, I'm afraid.

Regards,
Clouseau

my heart still breaks for what Jessica must have gone thorough in her last hour. We often hope that death is painless for victims killed that we read about here, because we are never sure. With Jessica's case, we know it WAS painful. Her family and those who love her know this. I hope the justice system (we need professional juries in this country IMO - I'll shout it from the rooftop of every case here) takes the time to get this right and the responsible party is handed just sentence for the crime.

Jessica, we have not and will not forget you here. I won't have much to say, but will be reading along and am grateful in advance to anyone who can share trial tweets/updates/videos.

7 men, 5 women — 6 black, 6 white; alternates= 2 women, 1 man.

Seems to be a well balanced jury. I just hope they all pay attention well and are up for this type of trial.

Jury selected in Jessica Chambers capital murder trial / with video
Therese Apel, The Clarion-Ledger Published 4:06 p.m. CT Oct. 9, 2017 | Updated 5:01 p.m. CT Oct. 9, 2017

A jury has been seated in the capital murder case of a teenager brutally burned to death in Panola County almost three years ago.

Quinton Tellis is accused in the death of 19-year-old Jessica Chambers of Courtland and faces the death penalty if convicted.

Of the seven men and five women selected, six are black and six are white.

Pike County has a similar demographic to Panola, and jurors had to be pulled from outside the north Mississippi area because of pre-trial publicity. Court officials said the jurors were to be sent to Panola County Monday night.

[...]

Therese will be on a pre-planned vacation in Kentucky with her parents and won't be covering the trial this week. :tantrum:
