‘A woman has fronted court charged with the murder of a man found buried in a shallow grave on Melbourne's outskirts.

Natalie Dalton, 36, is accused of murdering Jade Goodwin, whose body was found on a vacant property in Tyabb on Sunday.

She faced the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday morning.

Magistrate Duncan Reynolds was told police would need more time than usual to prepare for the case.

It was a complex investigation, with several crime scenes and a large amount of witness statements and telephone intercept material to be transcribed, the court heard.

Ms Dalton is accused of killing Mr Goodwin on the weekend of October 14 and 15 at nearby Hastings.‘

‘Ms Dalton is due to face court again on March 23.’

The family of a Victorian man whose body was found in a shallow grave at a Tyabb farm says he'd fallen in with the wrong crowd and made enemies.

Jade Goodwin's fingers were hacked off with a machete a few months ago, and then last week he suddenly went missing.

The 39-year-old Hastings man was last seen alive on October 13, Victoria Police confirmed on Tuesday.

On Sunday his twin brother Jesse Bryer asked Facebook friends for help to find him - but the father of two was already dead, dumped in a shallow grave at a vacant Tyabb farm on the Mornington Peninsula.

TWO men accused of the murder of Hastings father Jade Goodwin have appeared in court.

Shane Heiberg, 34, and Brendan McDowall, 52, were both remanded in custody and will return to court later this week.

Mr Heiberg appeared in court wearing an Iron Maiden T-shirt and a heavily bandaged right hand.

Magistrate Alan Spillane heard Mr Heiberg had recently suffered cut tendons and was treated at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Mr McDowall had also recently sustained a ruptured bicep and a broken finger.

The court heard he required antipsychotic medication while being held in jail.

The charges come after a woman faced court charged with the murder on Friday.

Natalie Dalton, 36, did not apply for bail and was scheduled to reappear for a committal mention on March 23.

The trio were arrested between Friday and Tuesday in connection with the murder of Mr Goodwin.

It is believed the 39-year-old’s body may have been buried only hours before it was found at the rural lot on the Mornington Peninsula on Sunday night.

He had not been seen since October 13.

BBM. Ice.

Can you say more about that inference Bo? Are antipsychotics used to treat the immediate effects of ice, or would they be for addiction, or are you supposing ice-induced psychosis persisting even when when the person has stopped consuming?

Under the circumstances, methamphetamine (‘ice’) use may have contributed to the crime so the latter, I would guess.

Treatment of ‘ice’-induced psychosis:

But

Because of their safety and efficacy, the expert panel proposed oral benzodiazepines . . . as the first choice of medication for methamphetamine psychosis. Surveys of emergency room patients with psychotic disorders show that benzodiazepines are preferred to other forms of sedation. Antipsychotic medication should only be administered if benzodiazepines prove ineffective. . . . Continuation of antipsychotic medication beyond this acute phase is usually unnecessary after 72 hours and should be avoided longer term. page 10, http://www.vaada.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Psychosis_guidelines.pdf

On the other hand the Medscape link does say

Typical antipsychotics should be used for acute stabilization with the intention of switching to an atypical antipsychotic drug . . . for long-term use.

But this is after recommending antidepressants and in some circumstances antimanics and 'nonbenzodiazines' and warning that typical antipsychotics may have counter-effects. https://emedicine.medscape.com/article/289973-medication#1

Irrespective of meth use, the accused (BM) may have an independent psychosis which also contributed to the crime.

I wonder if SH's arm injury is from the struggle or result of a suicide attempt. http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/t...ourt-charged-with-murder-20171029-gzadcb.html

BBM.That’s true JLZ. It’s not unusual to have a comorbid psychiatric illness as well as an addiction.

One of the accused’s injuries may have been due to a suicide attempt but he had a cut hand, not wrist:

‘Mr Heiberg had his right hand in bandages as he entered the courtroom.

He had been treated at the Royal Melbourne Hospital for cut tendons and requires antibiotics, the court heard.’

I was referring to the other accused:

’Mr Mcdowall has a broken finger, a ruptured bicep, and requires an anti-psychotic medication while in custody, his lawyer told the court.’

Also, I suspect this was a drug-related murder.

Biologists to talk in Vic murder case
Rick Goodman
AAP•23 March 2018

Biologists will give evidence in the case of three people accused of murdering a Victorian father whose body was found in a shallow grave on the Mornington Peninsula.

Brendan McDowall, 51, Shane Heiberg, 34, and Natalie Dalton, 36, are charged with murdering 39-year-old father Jade Goodwin at Hastings in October.

About five days after the alleged murder Mr Goodwin's body was found buried in a shallow grave at a Tyabb property.

The accused trio on Friday faced Melbourne Magistrates Court, which was told several scientists are expected to give evidence at a pre-trial hearing in June.

"There's a fingerprint witness. There are a number of biologists," Dalton's lawyer Justin Willee said.

Dalton's case was "vastly" different to her co-accused because it involved a sexual assault allegation, the details of which were not discussed, the barrister added.

"There is a witness to that alleged assault," Mr Willee said.

The comments about the alleged assault sparked a fiery scene in court.

A woman in the public gallery stood up, swore at Mr Willee and stormed out.
"You're a *advertiser censored***** liar," the woman said as she left.

When Heiberg and McDowall faced court in November, shortly after their arrest, they both had injuries.
Heiberg had a bandaged right arm, while McDowall was said to have a broken finger and a ruptured bicep.

Dalton, McDowall and Heiberg will return to court for a committal hearing on June 13 to determine if there is enough evidence to send them to trial.
